Session Report: Mon, Mar 3, 2008
I arrived jus in time to join To Court The King. It's fun, and fast. By taking advice, I won, which doesn't speak much for the depth or decisions. Did I mention it's fast?
We split into two groups. I taught Rob v2 Hellas, while the other group played "the fart game." I enjoy Hellas because it's fast, has some warfare, and has some exploration.
Then we played Fast Food while another group played Thurn and Taxis. FF is Monopoly done right. I enjoyed it, though I didn't do that well.

Ted, thanks for posting the session report. I always look forward to reading the writeups of the sessions I don't get to attend. Sounds like it was a good time. My problem was that when I posted that work was going to be unpredictable, I didn't know just HOW unpredictable. I was optimistically thinking out of work by 4pm...noooo, try 9pm. At that point, home seemed like the reasonable choice.
Interesting to hear about FFF. I know Brian had brought it by before but I have yet to see it played. And I have been wanting to play Kutschfahrt again, so I'm sorry I missed it. Oh well, gives me the weekend to look forward to.
Are you still trying your hand at mini painting?
We finished the night with four? games of Race For The Galaxy.
I really enjoy Thurn and Taxis... we'll have to try it with the envelope expansion next time. TaT is one of those Euro games where the board is pretty, but the theme isn't really a part of the game. But it's a brain=bending puzzle, and I'm always interested in seeing how it turns out. I started strong, but my bonus points were tiny ones - I believe I wound up in last.
I was happy to make a rare Monday appearance and meet the new folks. Kutschfahrt was fun, though I learned the downside of trading weapons for cups... The guys with the weapons then point them at you and ask for cups back. Great game!
Thurn was fun, and a rare Euro victory for me, though I am not really sure how I pulled it off.
I am already looking forward to Saturday!
Chris, you were correct. Road to Legend is still on the boat!
Sean, count me in as one of the gamers who enjoys TaT. The 'envelope' expansion makes it even better, without changing the game too much. It adds a very thin layer of extra strategy to a game that has the right amount of depth as it stands, without pushing it into the meadium to heavy category (where it doesn't belong, IMO). Highly recommended.
"He got Phoenix! That can't be good for Chicken!"
Ah yes - the Quote of the Night... that game also produced another quote later in the night, but I've forgotten it... I will say that the FFF game was a more animated crowd than our TaT.
And lo, Phoenix was gotten, and it was (in fact) bad for Chicken.
