SAVG News....
Any following this year's E3? I've been following it on Gamespot.com (where you can even "subscribe" to follow particular games a la RSS reader), and G4TV.com (the iphone app works really well btw). Great stuff.
Games that have picqued my interest:
1. Star Wars: The old Republic. As I said before, this is the game that will get me back into MMO's. The new trailer looks particularly awesome (even if it isn't actual gameplay footage). The other video updates are a must see too.
2. Warhammer 40k: Dark Millenium. Like I told Mike S, games like Space Hulk, and Horus Heresy have planted the seed of interest in this whole setting. Might even download the latest RTS for the PC from Steam. Dark Millenium is an MMO based on WH40k. The gameplay videos look great.
3. Portal 2!!!! Enough said.
4. Bunch of sequels... like DeadSpace2, GOW3, Halo, etc... and most important of all, Rock Band 3 which will have a keyboard, and a "closer to the real deal" guitar. No significant updates on my fav, the drums, though.

One of the big pieces of news I saw was the application of cloud computing to console gaming. Now, I'm no expert on this stuff, but the impression I got was that mainstream commercial titles would be available over the internets along with save game info. Supposedly this means you would be able to buy a game like a downloadable movie (including new releases) without having to go buy a physical copy, and that all the info that would normally be on your hard drive would be available on any console anywhere and all you would need to do is log in. Sounds like you would need some serious bandwidth, but what do I know? I'm just regurgitating what I read on the internet, which of course means that its true.
Suddenly, the Stones' "Get off of my Cloud" is going through my head...
I think we'll get to the point where content can be streamed as you need it. We will be dabbling with this cloud concept at work, but we haven't implemented it yet to see just what kind of pitfalls there are to this. Data corruption is a concern for me.
I just saw the preorder announcement from Amazon for Kinect. I know, the Wii has been doing stuff like this for a while, but my interest is piqued. Otherwise, the games I'm looking forward to are:
Fable III
Fallout: New Vegas
As for MMOs, I'm still not really enthusiastic about them. They take way too much time. I want to pay my $60 and have a game I can actually finish instead of paying a monthly fee and commit a lot of time engaging in group raids.
Comiczeal4 for the IPad may just be the application that makes me pull the trigger. Not saying I have any CBRs laying around or anything...
Games from the cloud? I'm sure we'll see this sooner rather than later, as it would completely eliminate piracy. As it is, with services like Steam, Good Old Games, and the like, I'm done buying physical copies of PC games.
Oh... apparently Kinect only works as a game controller if you're standing (cue howls of rage from couch potatoes everywhere).
Anne, I hear ya. I hate the MMO monthly subscription model... but it's freakin' Star Wars!
deep sigh...
Ok, back to normal.
I think I'll pass on the Kinect. It will likely be just like the Wii controller was for me. The magic was gone in like the first month. Or maybe the release of RB2on the 360 was to blame....
I won't be pre-ordering Kinect, but will be keeping an eye on initial reviews. The demos look great -- things have come a long way from the "eye-toy" webcam of the ps2. The big inhibitor is the price point -- if too few people go for it, game manufacturers won't have any incentive to develop quality titles for it. It's like the "motion plus" for the Wii - it's a game changer, but no one is coding for it.
Seeing the mention of Dead Space 2, I saw on the Xbox website that Dead Space 2 will support Kinect. I have no idea how it's going to work but it sounds interesting. I wonder how it will interpret my "throw your hands in the air and scream like a little baby" motions.
The sequel I'm looking forward to the most: Dead Rising 2, sequel to my favorite zombie game ever that also is a game no one else seems to have played. Unlike Left 4 Dead with its sprinting undead, it's the typical George Romero slow moving "braaaaainnssss" zombies in a mall with an insane number of props that can be used as weapons, like impaling them with thrown CDs at them, frisbee-like), scythes, jeeps, benches, those huge patio umbrellas (open it up in front of you and charge ahead), and big smiley doll heads that you can plop on them to confuse them while you plot your next move. Apparently, DR2 will have the "Hail Mary," a grenade duct-taped to a football (how great is that?) along with the "Paddlesaw", a kayak paddle with a running chainsaw duct-taped to each end, a la Darth Maul. As GladDOS would say, "I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS."
Snoopy Flying Ace. $10.
Also, if you haven't sent in your list for the SABG Top 50 ... I'm leaving it open for another 10 days or so.
Downloading the Snoopy demo now.
Puzzle Quest 2 is supposed to release this week. After the abomination that was Galactrix, I'm restraining my optimism.
Just snagged the Mass Effect 2 Overlord DLC. I need to finish this silly cowboy game so I can go back to the sci-fi goodness.
Oh.... BTW, Happy Father's Day everyone!
I finally got around to playing Dead Space and I like it, but I think I've backed myself into a corner with my upgrades/purchases and may need to restart. I seriously doubt I can win the fight I'm stuck on with my current options. I got stuck earlier and had to go back to a save 20 minutes prior and redo everything to change my options. That kind of blows.
