The Neverending Story

So obviously this post is about our quixotic quest to complete the endless setlist. Jon and Steve showed up around 9 am to attempt the monstrosity. With me on medium vocals, Jon on Medium bass, and Steve on hard guitar we were off.

Things went pretty swimmingly and about 3 hours later we were done with about 45/58 songs when I suggested we pause and go grab lunch at taco cabana.

"I'm just worried about a power outage" said Steve.

Keep in mind I haven't had a power outage in like 6 months, but I wasn't starving and we only had 13 songs left to go so we pressed on.

Three songs later, bam...power blinked. Wtf? Nice karma Steve.

We attempted a smaller song set. Two songs in, bam...power went out.

The Rock Band gods must have been displeased. We must have punted down 14 at midfield with 8 minutes to go in the game. I wrote game over in my notebook and we went to get lunch.

We will attempt again tomorrow hopefully sans power outages.

Wait a sec, lemme count something.

Board/tabletop games? Check.
Mexican food? Check.
Video games? Check.
Football analogies? Check.

Throw in really good (read: new/strange/different/unique) beer and I think I'm home. :-D

Looking forward to meeting y'all (but I don't think I'll be able to swing Saturday)!

Two theories.

1. The Rock God was angry at Jon for his lack of effort.

2. Michael's game was exposed to Brian's vocals; it might never recover.

Be wary of flying too close too the Sun, lest the Rock God get angry.

My copy of GH3 arrive last night, and I hurriedly dug it out of the peanuts, assembled it, and braced myself to play Slow Ride on easy. Three songs later my hand was cramped up into a shriveled claw, but I'm beginning to see the fun. In about six months maybe I'll audition for the band.

XBOX360 - $350
RockBand - $180
Extra Guitar - $40
Large screen TV - $2000
Lunch for the band - $30

Losing hours of progress because you didn't have a $40 UPS? Priceless.

I do feel the pain. When I lived in Dallas there was a lot of new construction, and we had frequent power blips and brownouts - I have a UPS on each Tivo (the ps2/wii share with one tivo) and the computer.

Ehh, like I said that is so uncommon for me that I never even saw it coming. We finished it today, same difficulty settings. Out of the 58 songs, we five starred 46 and 4 starred the rest.

Now we have to start practicing for the new, more difficult downloadable content.

Coming in March is something called the "Thrash Pack", with much more challenging guitar parts. Also, look on YouTube for "The Perfect Drug" by Nine Inch Nails. Can't wait to try that drum solo. Lyrics may be inappropriate, though.

What did it do when you finished?

(I hope it didn't say "YOU...ARE...FAGS!" That would suck.)

I really need to rethink my whole approach to life. I'm jealous of those with the time to play two days of Rock Band during the week!

So... what now? Will the DLC come fast enough?

Devil May Cry 4 looks quite good, but, of course, not a great group or multi-player experience. Good co-op though. I'm traveling next week via Uncle Sam, so I think I'll eat cheap a few nights and pick it up.

Now, back to GH3 on Easy...

DMC4 has co-op? Are you sure? By the way, if the game is anything like the previous titles, expect soul-crushing difficulty in the later stages (nothing ninja gaiden hard, but frusturating nonetheless)...

I'm hoping Army of Two which comes out in a month is as awesome as I've imagined. My brother and I already have copies reserved... Trailers and media playtests sound promising. Don't screw it up like usual EA!

Dennis, what's your source for future songs coming for RB?

The wikipedia page is updated pretty frequently. I assume that information is coming directly from the rockband website.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_in_Rock_Band

Sorry for not htmling it but I feel lazy.

Yep, you're right. DMC4 is 1-player only. No co-op. Boo!
