February 20: War of the Gargantuas!

You know it. You love it. A day off work with nothing to do but dust off that massive box in the back of your closet... shoo away the moths and cobwebs... and hoist the backbreaking load into your rucksack for the journey to Dragon's Lair. The monster game... the one with hundreds of bits; countless cards, a meaty rulebook, taking four or more players at least 3-4 hours to play...

Last time we tried this, we played Descent for close to six hours without eating, drinking, or looking at sunlight. I staggered out of the store weak, disoriented, dazed, half blind.... and Victorious! Yeah, baby!

So, what do you want to play on 20 Feb? Who is going to be there?

DOOM! Do not let all my hard work in painting be all for not!

And Arkham Horror...Another giant game of the horror genre.

I also vote for total theme saturation to throw in Fearsome Floors and Mall of Horror.

If that doesn't fill a day, nothing will.

I will be there at 10 am.

Games I can bring: Hammer of the Scots/Crusader Rex (I'm a block game junkie), Memoir 44, Battle Line, Confrontation (yes, my collection consists mainly of 2 player games...I'm assuming that if we are a lot, we may need to split up at certain points during the day, specially if we want to cover so much gaming goodness). Also Acquire, Carcassonne the City, Railroad Tycoon, Werewolf (lupus in tabula), Puerto Rico.

Games I'd like to play (that hopefully others will bring): Pitch Car, World of Warcraft, Samurai, Conquest of the Empire, RA, Doom...

Games I wish I had with me to play that day: Europe Engulfed (or Eurofront series).

Do I think I'll get to play at least half of these? No.

Arkham Horror....definitively. I was disappointed with (or quickly got tired of) Shadows over Camelot, the only coop game I've tried. I'm sure Arkham will be more to my liking.

Holy cow... I need to brush up on my Arkham Horror and World of Warcraft rules this weekend... luckily you can play Arkham Horror with 1-player, so I'll try to get a dry run in this week.

I'll bring Conquest of the Empire and Mall of Horror as well.

...any more and I'd need a wheelbarrow!

By the way, does anyone else remember this movie? It was awesome when I was 10 years old...

Not to be rude or anything, but I'm marginally certain I didn't yet exist.

[feel old...wait for it...now!]

I actually didn't exist either in 1966 when the film was released in Japan. It wasn't shown in the US until 1970. I didn't see it until the late '70's on television. Unfortunately, this classic of giant monster mayhem is not yet on DVD, though you can occassionally catch it during Godzilla marathons.

Which Godzilla flick was the one with the tiny female japanese twins that sang songs? 'Cause I can tell you that one freaked me out as a child. Mainly because I was severly confused.

...I still didn't exist in the late '70s - or early '80s for that matter...

I'm a child of the 70's (1977), but I think I'm really more of the 80's.

Nope, never seen that movie. You know what was more scary than watching Godzilla as a young boy? Watching it dubbed to english and redubbed to spanish!

Mothra (and its sequels) had the two tiny twin girls. They would sing to summon Mothra (giant caterpillar; later a giant Moth) to help defend Okinawa, the later Tokyo.

The version of Mothra released in the 90's had a white Mothra (pretty much the same as the 60's version) and a black Mothra (still a good monster, but with much more wicked powers).

Sorry... I'm a big fan of giant monster movies...

"the later Tokyo" should be "then later Tokyo"
