Vote Muffit!

So, who's going to be a DLair tomorrow? I should be that are 5:30-ish, and I expect we'll kick off the night with the de riguer game or 3 of BSG. So say we all. RSVP in the comments, or when you show up you'll be playing Helo.

Metaphorically.

By getting to watch us play.

The funny thing is I really would not mind playing Helo; although I would prefer to play a civilian leader since I have yet to play anybody from that category yet. I should be there 5:15-5:45. I assume since I just have vanilla Civ 4 no wondrous downloads for me? Do I also assume the consensus at this point is to give the humans one more of everything to start? Personally I still have delusions of the humans being able to win without the assist. Of course if I am a cylon I would prefer to give the extra points and still crush the humans to further demoralize them. So, really a win win.

The humans have won without the assist, just not very often.

There is a version of fall from heaven available for vanilla civ but they made the shift to beyond the sword about a year ago and haven't updated it since then.

It is looking like I am out. Something about my sister wanting her birthday presents on her birthday. Who knew. ;)

Nice pick on the Colts BTW Dennis. Or at least I think that was what you said.

Yeah, I had Colts over Bengals in my survivor pool. But I also told you the Lions would be the Vikings. Sigh.

At least I snuck into my fantasy league playoffs. My opponent's best player is usually Romo; this week his high scorer was Ryan Longwell.

"Beat" the Vikings, not "be" the Vikings. This isn't some kind of New Age sports psychology.

Scott, if you enjoy Civ 4 at all, scape some pennies together and do a digital download of Beyond the Sword: http://www.direct2drive.com/

Hah! the last player to arrive at my latest 6 player session got Helo... by the time he did make it, it was his turn.

I just do not get consistent time to play Civ 4 but I will at some point get BTS I am sure.
An interesting way to save time if you are sure you have a final player coming.

By the way.

I have to process a lynch and auction sometime between 6:00 and 6:15 tomorrow.

If I am super prepared, I think I could be done and on my way by 6:30.

So I'm looking at a 6:45-7:00 arrival time.

Can't you just executive order that lynch is moved to 10pm or something?

At 11:18 PM, December 07, 2008, Blogger Michael said...

I would love to really. But that might put some players asleep between the time I get their auction results out and the time they need to submit night orders (east coasters 11pm - 3am range could be bad for some professional types).

Only other viable option is to postpone lynch for a day but just speaking from a players perspective 2 days of weekend inactivity is enough without adding a third day for the mod to take some personal time.

I can't guarantee that I'm going to be there. If I am, you can use my laptop to do what you need to do.

What about the other moderator?

At 12:09 AM, December 08, 2008, Blogger Michael said...

Oooh, that would work.

She is there to help with making the colors in the chat rooms. I couldn't ask her to try to resolve the auctions.

What time are you going to be there?

Oh, and Dennis and Michael, a few clarifications from the WOW Mini rulebook:

Tiebreakers:
If multiple players achieve a win condition simultaneously, determine the winner as follows:
• The player who has exceeded his or her party’s honor total by the most VPs wins.
• If there is still no winner, the player whose party has the greatest honor total wins.
• If there is still no winner, play continues until one player has more VPs than any other.

So in our case, if we had both hit our VP total at the same time, then we would have been tied after the first tiebreaker (excess over needed VP to win), and Dennis would have won the second tiebreaker because his warband had cost more honor (meaning he accumulated more VP, which makes sense).

Pets, once summoned, set their initial clock to match their master's clock once all costs for summoning have been paid. This also makes more sense.

Interestingly, pets don't block any line of sight, and anyone (including an enemy) can move through a pet. You just can't end movement on the same space as a pet.

The rulebook advises putting counters for buffs etc. on a character's card rather than its figure. Clearly, this is a matter of personal preference and doesn't affect gameplay unless you hate shuffling around all the counters with each character move. It might help keep things a little clearer, especially when moving a lot of characters together. At the same time, it's helpful to be able to see the buffs when you're looking at the map, as you usually can't see your opponent's cards very well.

Pets go away when the owner dies. Totems do not.

Apparently, friendly units do not block line of sight. Only enemy units do (from the rulebook):

A path from a source to a destination has blocked LOS if any space on that path except
the last is occupied by cover, high ground, impassable terrain, or a non-pet enemy character. Otherwise, that path has unblocked LOS.

Also, for ranged attacks, the attacker not only has to be in range of each target, he has to have LOS to each as well:

A character’s ability targets if it uses the word “target” or the range icon. To be legal, a target must be within the specified range of that character, and that character must have unblocked LOS to that target.

So the hunter's Multi-Shot cannot hit a second enemy who is in range but not in LOS.

I know...asterisk asterisk. :)

If you are obviously, I misread the post you mentioned your laptop on.

I guess just let me know if you will be there. I wouldn't mind showing up with the early group for some race, resolving lynch while waiting for a few stragglers, then playing 5 games of BSG or so.

I keep crossposting.

Alright I'll figure it out tomorrow.

The only thing that really matters is that I get to be human.

One more biggie:

Action cards do not ready when a character respawns. Only on tick 10 unless another action says otherwise.

It is looking more like I might actually get to come. My sister wanted her presents this evening.

One of the girls from work has also expressed an interest in coming. Since Amy corrupted her over Thanksgiving. But she is not a BSG kind of girl. So I will have some Euros with me as well.

I'll be there, 5ish. Looking forward to BSG, and would be willing to finish up game 7 with Scott to end the baseball. I'm also bringing Wasabi, if anyone wants to try it.

I got my homework mostly done so I should be there 5ish.

No Race in the car, though, (I forgot) so we may be playing War or Go Fish or something for a while.

Pretty fun.

All the cool kids are doing it.

Don't get the little cheapie starter kit. The deluxe core starter kit just came out. It has much nicer maps with moveable terrain and a random assortment of figures. It's more expensive but worth it IMO.

Dennis and I splurged for a $160 box of boosters (with free shipping). It had 16 boosters, which normally run about $15, so this knocked the price down for each considerably. We then opened them all up and drafted, which was great fun, and ensured that we each got figures that we somewhat wanted with a guaranteed epic mini (assuming there were two epics in the 16 packs(epics average 1 every 8 boosters), which there were).

We found a couple of other people that play on DL on Monday night, and Dennis traded away a few of his duplicates for new ones. So that appears to be a good avenue to find new minis and, more importantly, get rid of duplicates, since there's not a market for any except epics through ebay.

So far, I think it's Dennis and me, although we might be able to rope Michael into playing a few games with us with our minis (we've got a pretty good supply now).

At 1:00 AM, December 09, 2008, Blogger Dennis Ugolini said...

Also, we got one bonus loot card in the booster case. It's a vanity pet for the online game called the Red Bearon.

Check it out on eBay, but do it sitting down. The guy I traded with today said he sold one for $120. So hopefully we'll recoup some cost soon.

Oh, and while the cheap starter kit is, well, cheap, the four minis that are in it are not available in the other packs. So if you take a shining to those four, it's the only way to get them.
