Just curious. Any bike riders in the group?
I know that Ben is a runner (not the "Logan's Run" type), but are there any bike riders out there in the group? If so is anyone riding the MS 150? I will be doing the ride this October. If anyone else is going, we could take a game or two to Beeville for Saturday night.
I hear great things about the MS 150. I own a nice Trek hybrid with street tires... but I just can't imagine a bike seat rammed deep into my nether regions for two 6-to-8-hour sessions.
I also have a Trek Hybrid that I have ridden many miles on. I have been riding now for almost 20 years, but never anything this long. Yes, I have been training a lot. I should be ready.
As for the long time in the saddle, I have a well padded saddle that I paid a little extra for and I will get myself some new very well padded bike shorts.
I wonder if I will be able to find any gamers in Beeville.
I've been riding now for 2 months. 20miles is the most I've done, and I am getting hooked. I have a hybrid, but I am regretting not having gotten a road bike.
Where do you ride? When I've done in SA (visiting my parents) I ride around Boerne Stage road up in the north west.
My riding routs have always been where there are great trails and scenic roads with very little traffic. I tend to avoid 1604 and I-10, although I have done both before. My hybrid is great for the trails and is light weight enough to take for great road rides.
Ted, I agree that SA is not bike friendly and this is one reason that I avoid certain streets.
I have had this bike route for 15 years or so. It changes slightly from time to time, but this is most of it. If this link works for you then you will see the rout "One Way" - which is about 20 miles. I am planning to do it tomorrow morning, so that will be 40. Hope this link Works.

We should do a 20 mile SABG rally next time you're in town, Rob.
Carlos: I haven't ridden since I got to Tx, but toward the end of grad school I was riding about 2-3 times per week, maybe 15 miles at shot.
I have not found SA to be nearly as bike friendly as a Lafayette. 10x the population can do that.
I would like to do a 150 some day, but in the meantime I'd like to ride more around town.
