Saturday Gaming

This is my obligatory quarterly post when I check the level of interest for playing Twilight Imperium 3 (TI:3), hence the Star Wars themed video. Anyone? If not, among the many other options I'd be highly pleased to play are:

Pillars of the Earth
World of Warcraft
Combat Commander: Any kind
War of the Ring
Perikles
Command and Colors: Ancients
Hannibal
Tide of Iron: with or without sand
Doom

I actually can't appear until around noon, as I'll be participating in my other main hobby of the moment in the morning. I'm definitely not doing the 50K.

Who else is up for Saturday gaming? Who (if anyone) wants to host? What do you want to play?

i am out for Saturday morning and merely a possible for Saturday afternoon. I have to go car shopping. Who all in our group has ties to the auto sales industry again? Sunday is possible if anything develops. IF I can make it which will likely not be clear until sometime Saturday; I would be up for any of the games and/or some exhibition/spring training SABBL.

If there was an interest for TI3, I would certainly be in.

Ben,
In the name of all that is good and holy in the world, please stop surfing the Internet. Seriously. Please.

You need to put a disclaimer on that video or something. I was expecting at worst, tacky and humorous. Instead, I got deeply disturbing. Her poor family. That video makes me weep for humanity.

That music and goofy dance is like a mental stain in my consciousness that will not come out. Thanks. No, really. Thanks a lot.

My preference list (off the top of my head)-
World of Warcraft (again)
Power Grid
Memoir '44 Air Pack
Thebes
Ca$h n' Gun$ - les Yakuzas
Puerto Rico/San Juan
Fury of Dracula
Caylus/Caylus MC/Pillars of the Earth
Notre Dame
Celebrities
Any good trivia game (are we out of these?)
Arkham Horror (horror...that's a good word for that video)
Other cube games (Shogun maybe? Probably down on the list but thought I'd mention it anyway)

Just thoughts.

Carlos, if we play TI3, is it better to do it at your place or over here? I can host, or I can go to wherever the games will be.

(Assuming I'm hosting...
Simon, you're welcome to bring the Wii for temporary diversion/unlock help/whatever if you want. No big deal if you don't want to- we should have plenty to do over here.)

Scott: My wife, Vicki, is a sales person at North Park Lexus. I've already asked her to offer you the secret SABG discount if you show up over there. Just be sure to ask for her by name.

I'm back from New Orleans and up for anything, with emphasis on Strat, WoW, and Starcraft.

Wait Chris:

You have never seen that video before? That is a classic. Like the WNBA dancer etc.

Oh and you had me at celebrities.

Look, I know Stage II for whatever reason is verboten, but I would like to believe at least that enough time has passed to where I could play with you guys again without undo problems.

I'm hoping to get some trade talks done Saturday.

Clearly I don't surf the internets enough. I've never seen this before. And I don't think I'll ever watch it again. But it was funny until I had that feeling of watching the impending train wreck. A train that takes about four minutes to finish wrecking.

I need to broaden my horizons.

And Simon, I have a gamecube controller I could bring I think.

The gamecube is packed up in the bedroom closet somewhere so it was immuned to being stolen.

Sounds like WoW still has some legs.

Perhaps you can get all the baseball and charades out of your system before 1200?

Chad, you going to make it?

Chris: It's okay -- I hadn't seen that video before, either. And I usually refrain from watching the YouTube at work, but since no one's here yet, and since you went on and on about how horrid it was, I couldn't help myself. Did no one suggest that maybe she not perform? The "dance" made me want to claw out my eyes, and the "music" made me want to stab pencils in my ears, but the hideous combination was just too much.

Ben's List o' Games

Pillars of the Earth
World of Warcraft
Combat Commander: Any kind
War of the Ring
Perikles
Command and Colors: Ancients
Hannibal
Tide of Iron: with or without sand
Doom

One of these things is not like the other.

That video, which I also had never seen, should be locked away never brought out again. Seesh. I agree with Amy and Chris on this one. Though it might not have been so horrid if she could hit a note. Gah.

And I am a pass on the gaming. It looks the RNA that I have been avoiding dealing with must be dealt with. Bah. There goes my weekend. And here comes a migraine. ::sighs::

Pillars has been in shrink in my closet for far too long...plus, the expansion set adding the crusades looked quite cool.

There seems to be some momentum for both Starcraft and WoW as the early morning game. Since Ben won't be there until noon, I'd say it's probably Starcraft. Unless there is a big objection, shall we plan on that? (Nothing is ever set in stone, I guess, but it's always nice to have some semblance of direction.)

I'll host since no one else has spoken up. The usual 9am?

If I get time tonight before bed, I'd like to open up Pillars and run through the rules. I don't know if it will be enough to let me be able to teach it, but I may make an effort to read through it anyway. Tomorrow when Ben gets there, we can play Pillars if I have a good (not just so-so) grasp of it. If I don't get to that point, then I'm probably leaning towards CC:E or Power Grid, with the others in my list as hopefuls or standbys.

I'm a maybe, but leaning towards no. Supposed to go out with some friends tonight, and I don't know how long we'll be out.

Can't make it on Saturday, but thought I could add some to the video content - here's an interview with the poor lady who was the ill-fated trumpet player:

Blogger is pretty dumb when it comes to long urls, so I shrunk that last link down for you Sean:

Interesting though. I remember when I first saw that video, the description said she was a plant or something and thus it was intended to be humorous. Guess that wasn't the case! Embarrassing!

Perhaps this is not the best time for TI3. My cubs will be at the house, so hosting would not be a good idea.

BTW if you play Starcraft I would be interested. I hav enever played, but would not mind being an observer. I don't think that I hav eever even seen the game ieself, other than on the shelf. Brian seems quite fond of it, so it cannot be bad.

I am a definite no (this is akin to taking the dummy weight off of the baseball bat for you guys!)

I will be "primitive" camping with my wife and 11 year old daughter for a few days. I imagine that they may hate me afterwards, thus allowing for more gaming opportunities in the future! The list of games definitely looks good; I look forward to a rainy day spent playing Once Upon a Time in the tent (--not even a sexual euphemism!).

Chris: I'll read the rules as well. Thanks for the leadership!

I am now in for Saturday all day (we ended up buying our vehicle Friday night). I will bring my strat team and if I remember some games. I have a number of trivia games but have been told they have all been tried long ago and found lacking so not sure if I should bring any of those or not.

At 11:10 PM, March 14, 2008, Blogger Dennis Ugolini said...

By all means, bring trivia games! It's been a long time.

I am debating the benefits of being a good grad student vs gaming. if i get some work done early, then maybe i can convince someone that playing Ingenious or Tikal would be a good idea. I also might show up with Vegas Showdown, Puerto Rico and or Notre Dame, but we shall see what the morning brings. Should I show up it will be in the 11 to 12 ish hour.

chris which other game did you want me to bring?

My young son in excited about joining band next year and playing the trumpet. I will not let him see this video.

I was not able to go this time and game. My wife was sick. We took her to the ER. All seems well now.
