Yeah, we're gonna need you to come play games on Saturday...that'd be great...

Time to start planning for Saturday.

I'll host this weekend, since I finally got my new dining room table and can now proudly say that I have more than one chair to my name in my house. Start time is up to group consensus (8am is fine). I live in the general area of 281N and 1604.

There is a game of Descent that may happen in the early morning if enough people are interested (I know it's not everyone's cup o' tea). Beyond that, it's pretty open. I have a decent size coffee table with a couch and oversized chair that has been tested and works ok for board games for two or three people as well.

Please consider bringing a few games if you have some--my selection is fairly limited and lopsided towards Fantasy Flight Games-ish stuff at this point. I enjoy the short-to-medium Euro style games a lot, I just don't really have any at this point, primarily because so many other people do (and usually have theirs around).

RSVP in comments.

P.S. I have a cat. Sorry Amy, but I figured you needed to know. If you and Jeff are available this weekend, we can shift this somewhere else and have it at my place another time.

Chris, I will not be available so I hope all of your guests have a good time. Thanks for the invite! How is the PBEM research?

I can game on Saturday morning. If it is going to be Decent, count me out.

I just saw that movie a few days ago. Half the washed-up pilots who work for FlightSafety look remarkably like the old guy who got laid off and then mangled in the car accident. So I know what's ahead for my future.

I'll be on my way to Dallas and hate to miss it.

Jon: Not a problem--I can wait on Descent for another time. I'd rather just have the group over and hopefully find games most people like (which we usually are able to do).

My main concern is that (in my experience) when other people have hosted, most of the games played are from the host's game shelves. We may be in for a short day if we are picking solely from my supply.

Carlos: The PBEM thing has kind of stagnated. I think it sunk in just how much time it would take, and I always seem to have something else I'd rather be doing, so I may just end up limiting my game play to face-to-face stuff for now. I'll keep my mind open, though.

Steve: Have a safe trip. I'll talk to you when you get back.

At least you may get the chance to pursue your dream of creating a "jump to conclusions" mat then.

I'm a possibility for Saturday.

Bummer! I was thinking about Descent all day today.

In any event, I'm all in for any game you'd like to play, Chris. You're unselfish enough to open up your home for gaming, so I believe you should have first crack at the agenda.

I should be up for some gaming. The relatives are gone so I should be free.

If we have a large enough group and interested parties, I wouldn't mind splitting off for Tichu, Barbu, that random Chinese card game that I was talking about or other random card games that I like. Then Descent could still be on the agenda.

I also wouldn't kick Celebrities out of bed since I haven't played that in seriously forever. I also wouldn't mind knocking out some of my darn baseball things if people I owe games to can show up and we can procure a set.

Just played first Tichu game on BSW. I was having hardcore lag and serious issues with the game letting me actually bomb when I wanted to. Will explain more later, but the lag is inexplicable as the only internet application I was running was BSW.

In a related BSW note, I don't know what my problem was last time I logged into BSW, but all my stats appear to have been restored and I'm not level 0 or whatever its called anymore.

My name on there is michaell if anyone cares to look for me.

Ok, so if you play Tichu on BSW make sure you don't stumble into people playing the each team must have one person call Grand Tichu every hand.

Mark, would you be up for Mets-Cards? After which we could rejoin the general population.

I am a probable (awaiting final spousal clearance) hopefully both to catch up Detroit in SABL and for general gaming and I can probably bring some games as well. Can somebody inform me of specific location? sashacter@yahoo.com

Amy's busy this weekend, but I'm available so email me directions, Chris.

I'd be up for Descent. I will eventually come to the point where I "will Descent no more forever" and will be very glad I didn't shell out $80 for it, but I'm not quite there yet.

I'll bring a boxful of Euros as well.

Scott and I will be there to take care of a baseball game and rejoin the general gaming population after.

I haven't technically played Descent yet, so I can't really say DO NOT WANT!!!!, and would be willing to give it its first shot if thats the way we end up going. Again though, if there sufficient numbers of non-Descent non-Baseball players when it is time to make that decision, I am fine with something else.

I need directions emailed to me as well as does Scott I assume.

If people are interested, I would rather play a game of Doom than Descent.

One of the big things that gives Doom an advantage in my mind is that it is about 2 hours shorter than Descent.

Also Doom has far fewer monsters, but they are harder to kill. This makes me like it because you actually have to manuever to take down a creature, unlike the last game of Descent where we were two hours into the game and I had moved 3 squares so far because the hall was clogged with little monsters that never went away.

Oooh! Double-blind Doom Deathmatch! That still needs to happen at some point.

At 4:58 PM, August 09, 2007, Blogger Unknown said...

Do we actually own enough copies of Doom(3) in our group now that we can officially declare Simon MIA?

At 5:32 PM, August 09, 2007, Blogger Rob said...

Descent, Barbu, Chinese cards, Baseball.... it looks like I won't be missing much.

I'll actually be in town, but moonlighting at the VA from 8-5pm on Saturday. Bummer.... The lure of extra dinero.

At 5:56 PM, August 09, 2007, Blogger Ben said...

Doom vs. Descent... its like Coke vs. Pepsi in my book. I own both and enjoy both. I don't mind the extra length of Descent (which is about to change with the next expansion/patch), and the theme is fantastic.

Rob: You suck, man! Get your priorities straight. Games are more important than dinero. My purchase record at Thought Hammer over the past year is clear proof of this.

I'll send out directions to everyone shortly. Let me know if you don't have them by tomorrow morning and I'll get them to you.

no dinero, no games....
yes dinero, no times for games...

my predicament

At 8:10 PM, August 09, 2007, Blogger Unknown said...

I would tell you what the fundamental problem is and it has nothing to do with dinero but I would just be a broken record.

Assuming I get a long enough spousal lease to stay beyond a baseball series... do any of the collective have any interest in and therefore should I bring any of the following:
Kremlin?; Dune?; adel verpflichtet?, acquire?; win, place & show?; Who wants to be a millionaire?

Doom vs. Descent is sort of like Coke verse Pepsi.

That is if Coke last 3 hours, than I switch to Pepsi and it goes for 3 hours and still wants to keep going, and I am like sweet.

Than, after I agree to keep going with Pepsi it than pulls out a bat and starts beating my brains in.

Than it is exactly like Coke vs. Pepsi.

BTW I will pick up fajitas from Pappasito's for lunch, so for those who like that, lunch is covered (my treat). All the more reason to be here by lunchtime.

What! No, Taco Cabana??

Just kidding, Chris. You're very generous. If you need me to bring anything, like soft drinks or other refreshments, just let me know.
