Transformers

So has anyone else seen the latest USAF recruiting film, aka Transformers: The Movie? What did you think? No spoilers here, but my favorite part had the cameo by Furby.

Easily one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

All I wanted to see was some good robot-on-robot action, and when that FINALLY happens in the last 15 minutes or so of the 2 and a half hour movie, Michael Bay feels the need to use the same fast-cut editing he uses in all of his other crimes against humanity that he calls movies, so nothing makes sense visually. That, and the Transformers roll around like they're giant rolly pollies or something. It was more like watching Madballs the movie rather than Transfomers the movie.

And seeing Bumblebee relieve himself on someone? Yeah, didn't need to see that.

I could go on, but I won't. To anyone that hasn't seen Transformers: Don't. Go see Live Free or Die Hard. THAT'S what a real summer movie should be.

Anyway... on the gaming front, I should be able to come around regularly towards the end of the month.

I actually saw this on opening day with my son. I thought the film was "amusing." I never saw any of the Transformers cartoons in my younger days, but I know that it was a cartoon and the recent movie was made with the same mentality.

I think that if you keep in mind that this is just a glorified Saturday morning cartoon (and nothing more), you should not be too let down.

With this in mind, I thought the movie was fun. One thing that I did note as a parent. The movie will obviously appeal to young pre-sixth grade kids. I think the producers should have kept this in mind when they applied some of the humor.

"He who pays Michael Bay has no grounds for complaint."

Do the following words mean anything at all? "All I'm trying to say is Pearl Harbor sucked, and I miss you."

Good points, all.

I thought the movie had as many "hey, that was a pretty cool special effect" moments as it did, "hey, that was a really stupid choice" moments. The Bumblebee relieving himself shot is a great case in point.

I was a diehard Transformers fan as a kid, so seeing the movie was good nostalgia for me. Thus, I'm able to forgive a lot of the bad movie making just to see things like having Starscream take down a bunch of F-22s in a dogfight.

Roger Ebert nearly gave the movie 4 out of 4 stars. He marked it down because the last battle was confusing and boring. He felt the movie suceeded on its own terms, except for the last battle.

One more thing about my experience at the theater. When the film ended, most of the audience clapped. Does that happen very often?

Like I said, it was a fun film. Don't take it too seriously and it will be fine.

I thought it was fun with very sweet effects. But please Bumblebee, plug that thing up. That was dumb.
