So, what's on the table for monday?

I could stand Sword of Rome again (strike while the iron is hot!), but I could ease back a bit. Based on reviews and commentaries (especially Chris Farrel), I decided I'd like to try Successors, which is also a CDG (the struggle for Macedonia after Alexander's death). I could have had this for a song last century (a friend didn't want his copy, but I didn't play CDGs then). Now it's a game worth gold. But a quick trade (thanks Dennis) and I own it.

But the rules ... ah, Avalon Hill in all it's 'glory.' Mo way I'm learning this over the next few days. Stick with what I already know.

So, it sounds like there will be a game of Puerto Rico, and other things. I've been bringing Struggle of Empires faithfully, for all the good that's done. The closet is open to suggestions...

I've got Wits & Wagers, Blue Moon City, the questionable reprint of El Grande (may not be playable due to wrong parts for the Castillo, but we'll see if I can make a quick fix before the replacements show up...If they show up), Perudo, Chairs, Vegas Showdown, Hey That's My Fish, and Hoopla.

Needless to say, with so many games and it being a Holiday (save class in the evening) I'll be showing up nice and early. In fact, I'll match the earliest time of anyone else.

Simon: you mean you'll meet me there at 10 am?

Brian: I really enjoyed SoR and really want to take it for another spin. But like you said, I probably wouldn't mind easing off a bit after 3 Monday's of wargames... unless the other grognard-wanna-be's twist my arm or something. Struggle doesn't sound bad at all....specially given Eagle's dwindling stock....should be making my purchase soon.

Simon (2): Would like to try Blue Moon City.

Rick, saw your post under the Totale Krieg thread (which I think has broken record for number of posts). I'll bring Thurn and Taxis.

Blue Moon City is a lot of fun. My wife and I played tonight. Once you get down what the card powers are, you see yet another multi-layered Knizia gem I can't wait to play again.

I don't know why, but I've been in a total party/trivia/dexterity mode lately which is reflected in my recent acquisitions. They're all the fun without the brain burning. Not that thinking is bad or anything, but it doesn't exactly relieve stress well.

I guess what I'm trying to say is Hoopla is hella fun and I can take anyone in Perudo!

Johnny Walker relieves stress better.

Rob, yeah, that post went all over the place, though it doesn't sound like there'll be any game of TK soon (sorry, Carlos). Count me in for Thurn und Taxis.

Simon, Monday is a holiday? Someone forgot to tell my school district. The bastards! In any case, I'm shooting for 6.

I have school, too. I just figured most others in the non-educational related sector might be off for some all day gaming.

Johnny Walker sucks. I'll take a good dry Gin over Whiskey/Scotch any day of the week. Blech.

We should start up a Pub night. Playing Hive down at a Microbrewery...What could be better than that?

I can meet you within 15 minutes of dragon's lair opening.

Simon: re: JW
Blasphemy!!

Interesting that you mention Microbrewery... My neighbor was trying to find one for us to go to without any luck. Is there one in town? I haven't checked.

Damn, how late does everyone stay up?

Rob, there's the Flying Saucer off Huebner and I-10 (Huebner Oaks). It's a little pricey although I'm sure you'd expect that.

But they don't make their beer though... Yes, I have my name up on one of those saucers... (kidding).

I can see it: "Hey guys, check it out. That saucer up there... that's my doctor"

Flying Saucer was actually the place I thought of when you mentioned "Hive" and "pub".

sleep is overrated

I'd very much like to play Wits & Wagers, and I'm also curious about Vegas Showdown and even Successors (glad to see Vikingatid morph into something playable). And I'll grab some stuff at random on the way out the door.

Simon, this monday is not a holiday.

Next monday (Sept. 4) is Labor Day, and most people should have that day off.

And I should be there around 7pm or so, dang night classes.

I have classes until around noon so I'll be there between 12:30 and 1.

Oops, I thought I overheard someone say tomorrow was Labor Day. Of course, I'm normally that person who asks what day it is and gets funny looks, so nothing new here.

By the way, Wits and Wagers is great! I had to snag it after Eagle Games went down in a fit of paranoia, but my oh my - the components are superb. -And the gameplay? You don't even have to know anything to win which is great for non trivia junkies *cough* Jon *cough*.

I kid, I kid.

I know plenty about trivia games, I just have to always answer completly random answers to keep everyone else second guessing if they should accuse me as an idiot.

I suck at trivia, so Wits and Wagers sounds like my game.

For some real microbreweries, I've heard of the Blue Star (?) downtown, and the Yellow Rose off 281...Not too sure about either one though.

What time is everyone showing up tomorrow? I could play suring the day, and I am done with morning classes at 10am

Well, it looks like it will be Michael, me and you (at least until new job kicks in probably the week after). I can call you to confirm if it's going to be 10am or not for me.

I think Simon is coming at 10 too. I would like to strongly vote for trivia/party games to be in the mix tomorrow morning. I'm right on board with Simon with the party game thing.

Although I'm not against building a casino either...

At 10:14 PM, August 27, 2006, Blogger Simon said...

Well, I am bringing that particular game, too.

At 7:59 AM, August 28, 2006, Blogger Rob said...

If it's going to be party/trivia games in the am, I'll swing by in the afternoon...

kidding.

Have some yardwork to do today. Hopefully I'll be done before 10am (or at least before it goes up to 125 degress).

I had something come up for this evening, and I won't be able to make it. I had sort of an implicit PV game scheduled with Mark, but I'll have to miss. I'm going to send an email, but if anyone sees this, let him know tonight.
