I am a convert

Ben, I've crossed to the Dark Side. I finally gave in, and am now playing Crusader Rex on Vassal. Not PBEM, but live. It is simply GREAT. I am really really surprised at how good it all looks and how easy it is to use.

Plus.... Couldn't finish our session today, so we saved it. Tomorrow we are continuing..... SAVE and Continue is actually an option! Oh the possibilities... Lock and Load, Hammer of the Scots, ASL, Bonaparte a marengo, etc etc etc

I think PBEM and live play via Vassal (and ACTS for CDGs) is a great way for people with busy lives and a lot of time commitments to still get gaming in. I used to use the odd extra hour here and there to play PC games, but now I'm enjoying board games instead, which I enjoy a lot more. Particularly with wargames where learning the rules is such a heavy investment of brain cells, it is nice to be able to reap more of a dividend through on-line play.

This looks great! Especially for someone like me who often has difficulty getting away. The list of supported games is unbelievable. It is a healthy combination of old and new games. I was pleased to see "Napoleon in Europe" and "7 Ages". Thanks Rob for this posting. I'll be checking it out this weekend!

The Vassal and ACTS combo is awesome. I have three games of Wilderness War going, each of which takes me just a few minutes per turn. I'm not one for analysis paralysis, but playing this way does allow you a lot of time during the day to contemplate your next moves...

Carlos: You'll probably need to post something on BGG to find opponents for some of those less popular games. That's how I found someone to try out Crusader Rex with.
