Saturday Planning

We're putting the band back together.

Chez Chris will be open for business at 9am as usual this Saturday. Word has it that talks of a reunion tour actually are in the works, and it sounds like Rock Band will make its encore this weekend. I'm looking forward to this, as it was really fun last weekend and Michael now has all the songs unlocked. Come join in the fun.

I think we've figured out that if we want to get some games of any length in on the weekend, we probably need to plan them a bit ahead of time. Given that, Ben, Steve and I are getting a game of Descent going Saturday morning, and anyone else who wants to jump in is, of course, welcome. We know this isn't everyone's cup of tea, but that's why there's Rock Band. Plus, I've got that additional table for Race for the Galaxy or what have you.

Man, that sounds awesome. Somehow I'm going to have to figure out how to make it without upsetting the significant other since she's leaving to go back to school on Sunday... Would telling her she should spend this last precious time with her family work? Give her a day pass to the spa? Drug her coffee?

I'm screwed, aren't I?

If you change from Descent to Doom, I will take the last open spot.

Otherwise, I hear the band calling my name.

I honestly thought about Doom for the very reason that you mention, that we'd probably get more people into the game than we would with Descent, and more people playing is generally a good thing in my book. However, I'd really like to play Descent mainly because I like the theme but also because it's fairly tough to ever get it on the table at all because of the commitment required. Since I've got two others who will probably play, I wanted to take advantage of this opportunity when it came up.

Overall, I like suggesting games that I think most other people will like, and I know Descent isn't one of those games. I struggled a bit with suggesting it at all just because I hate to exclude people, but I'm also hopeful that it's not the only game we'll play on Saturday. It definitely helps having Michael bring Rock Band because I'm hopeful that people that don't want to start out with Descent will come over for that.

As a bit of a postscript, there has been some talk about getting another game of TI3 together, and I figure more people would want to join in on that (and, as Ben can attest, I flip-flopped between TI3 and Descent a couple of times). I thought about posting, "Hey, we're ALSO going to play TI3 the weekend after this one!" to let those that want to play clear out their schedules or let their spouses know. But I figured that naming one game to be played was as much unilateral action as I was comfortable with in one post. I don't like to turn my plans into the group's plans just because I post first, and Saturday really is a good "group" day for us and should remain so, with everyone getting some say in what we do. Plus, I still want to give others like Jeff & Amy or Carlos or whoever host if they get the time and have the inclination. (But don't get me wrong, I'll happily host most any weekend if no one speaks up--I have no problem with that.)

You could always bring her. Fantasy board games and video games with Jon and me. Isn't that her favorite activity?

Simon, I can safely say that if you come over and play Rock Band you will not be screwed. Tough to say for how long, though.

I'm tempted by Descent, in that it has a (shocking) number of admirers. But I'd have to learn the rules and I'm not 100% sure what my schedule is like, so if I show up I'll probably just rock & race.

Need Jon to bring a wireless guitar. Also there is a meetup group near Chris's house later that day if anyone would like to go. It is at the same place we went near halloween I believe.

Hey guys, my return is continuing to suck. Turns out I won't be going this go 'round either. Not to spend time with the gf, but to go into friggin' work on a friggin' Saturday morning. Oh joy...

I'm in, if you haven't replaced the drummer with a machine.

I am a probable for Saturday; I might be just a bit late. I am solidly in the Descent or other category as opposed to the band participants. Chris, can you resend me directions (sashacter@yahoo.com) not sure if I still have from them from the last time.

I finally beat Green Grass and High Tides medium drums and finished the medium solo drum tour to go with the medium solo vocal tour. It turns out the trick is to not miss so many notes. It didn't unlock anything but it sure was cathartic. Die damn song.

I'm working on my hard tour and things were moving swimmingly until I hit Learn to FLy. I don't think its that hard, thing I just got tired.

I guess this isn't relevant to saturday, oh well.

You're certainly not blocking Clan Wiles from hosting, Chris. I hope to host a few more times before The Big Event, but it won't be anytime soon. My weekends have been consumed by the Purchase Crib monster and the Assemble Crib monster. Speaking of baby-related furniture, if I ever catch the guy who designed our changing table, he's gonna taste the curb. I mean, seriously, who designs furniture that requires four people to assemble?
