ToI and Holidays
Tide of Iron
What's the latest word on this one?
I keep tabs on BattleLore and go out of my way to get in a game once in a while. Likewise with CC:E.
ToI seems to have slipped off the radar. Has this been sighted on a game table recently? Session report, anyone?
The copy at the back of DL beckons to me, but I have been able to resist up to now.
Holidays
It's never too soon to start planning / fantasizing for the holidays, including T-day and Christmas. I have no idea about my availability yet, but I am dearly hoping for an all day game of Here I Stand, and I also would like to get my copy of Mare Nostrum to the table w/ a full group. An additional Civ-type game would be in order...perhaps TI:3? Now that I think of it, the only time I played was about 2 years ago when Rob and I played a few turns one week night at Ben's. Just enough to test out the mechanics.
Then there's all those underplayed euros...Ra, Reef Encounter, Puerto Rico,...
Sigh, for now, it's back to work. Good thing I love my job. Still, I wish there were more dice in engineering...

If I can talk my wife into visiting her sister on Turkey Day Friday then I may be able to host a game day at my house. It is still to early to tell.
TOI needs to get played again. If there's a midpoint on the gaming spectrum between Memoir '44 and Advanced Squad Leader, TOI is pretty much it.
I've played TOI twice and it just didn't hit the right note with me. That's a shame, because I like Memoir '44 a lot, and I enjoyed ASL a lot when I was in college. I don't know...it just feels like, in playing it, you put in the work of ASL to get the return of Memoir '44. Both times I played, there was a LOT of rule consulting. For me, M44 satisfies the WWII-minis-on-a-board itch just fine.
That being said, I feel like I need to give it another try (probably because I've forgotten how involved it is). Ted, I'd definitely say try before you buy. Maybe over Thanksgiving break we can play a game or two.
We are definitely past due for another TI:3 game. Let's plan this thing.
Speaking of, I haven't seen Chad in a while. But I'm sure he's still running away with it.
I take personal responsibility for both ToI and TI:3 not getting played more.
As far as ToI goes, unfortunately almost immediately after receiving ToI, I started to get extremely busy, and the busy period is seeming to persist! I actually really enjoy the game, I would love to play it some more. It always seems to be tough to get complex 2-player games to the table (notable exception: WotR). The times I do most of my gaming are in a group environment with SABG, and it just seems unsociable to peel off for a long 2-player game.
As far as TI:3 goes, we just need to get it done. This Saturday is bleeped for me, as is next Saturday when I'll be in a deep, pre-marathon warrior's trance throughout the day. The following weekend is BGG.con (where I hope to play TI:3), and then we're practically talking Thanksgiving...
At this point, either 23 or 24 November would work for me. Anyone else?
Speaking of tactical WW2 infantry combat, I scored a couple minor shoutouts in the most recent episode of Into the Gamescape, where they debate the merits of ASL:SK vs. Combat Commander: Europe. A great podcast!
I hear about bkindt all the time on Into the Gamescape. Are you trying to beat me??
Chris and Ted, to make matters worse, Starcraft (the next bleeping BIG MF FFG g) is on the horizon.
carlos is responsible for getting me interested in TI:3. I still haven't played yet. I'm working on getting vassal+skype setup for some gaming with Rob.
I'm out of town for Thanksgiving, but Christmas is another story.
My copy of Starcraft should ship today from Boulder Games.
I'm sure we can do TI:3 in December as well...
Now, where is Hannibal???
Dragon's Lair had Starcraft On the Shelf today (at noon). Just in case someone felt like sauntering out there ...

What? I have to wait for Race again? That's it, just leave the door open tomorrow. It will save you the expense of a new window.
Brian, putting these last two posts together, I'm assuming Race for the Galaxy wasn't on the shelf at DL.
No, Jay says that Race should be in the US (at RGG) in about 7-10 days, and then another week or so to reach the stores...
I will almost certainly be at DL this coming Monday evening with Race for the Galaxy in hand. Gazing at the cool art on the cards is nice, but not as nice as actually playing.
