RobCon '07 (ver 1.11)

(Latest Update in Blue)
Well you all got a preview in a previous post. My wife will be out of town, so I decided that since it is going to be one of my last weekends in SA, that I was going to play games as much as possible. I need a break from all the hassles of moving.

So my house is basically open for gaming pretty much from Sat morning until Monday evening. With prior notice, swing by with some games, and we'll play. I have a large table that can sit 8, and a smaller 'coffee table where ~4 could play sitting on the couches. I also have an old XBOX with 3 games (pathetic I know, but I'm more of a PC gamer), one of which is a great multiplayer 'mini games' game. I do have 4 controllers. I may feel compelled to get the XBOX 360, plus a few guitars for Guitar Hero 2, plus a few mats for DDR.... (I kid). Cool option for any possible 'down time'.

Schedule:

5/18

  • Brian Not Hosting

5/19

  • 8am until? Jeff and Amy hosting: Die Macher: Jeff, Amy, Ben, and your struly.... Post Die Macher, we'll do Arkham, Shogun, Descent, TI3.... anything.
  • Ted and Mark playing probably a blockgame from 8-11:30'ish.
  • Brian showing up at 8am. Chris showing up at ?. Brian may have to persuade Ted and Mark to play something else..... unless Brian is player 5 in Die Macher, or Chris shows up at 8am. Anything can happen.

5/20

  • 7pm At my place: EastFront2. Mark and I. The rest of the day will go to moving stuff out of my house.

5/21

  • In case anyone reads this, we are still at my place (as of 1700). We may be going to DL afterwards....

This is going to be awesome! Please no X-Box karaoke games though...

I will definitely be there on Saturday.

I'm also off work on Monday, so I can start early that day as well. If no one else is playing that day, I'd be happy to play some WotR (avec expansion, of course), or whatever else you feel like playing.

I have an all day Cub Scout Event, so I will have to pass. Why could we not do this on the three day weekend the following week??? ANyway, good gaming to all who can make it!

Maybe we can do this during the 3-day weekend the following week...

Dennis: LOL.

Ben: You surely meant do this AGAIN during the....

Carlos, Ben: It looks like I will be officially moving that weekend, so I'll be pretty busy (and like, not here). Plus the wife leaving me home alone over a weekend happens almost once in a lifetime, and I just need to take advantage of it.

If I can at least do Die Macher on Saturday, Westfront on Sunday, and the usual on Monday except for until later at night, I'm cool.

But again, everyone else is invited to come over the weekend. Just let me know in advance here (specially so others can see that in fact there will be more than watching Die Macher being played).

If it's gonna be Rob's farewell blast, then I'll make a point to be there, but I can't stay all day.

I'm hoping for some non-Die Macher action, myself.

Light wargames sound great to me: BL, War of 1812, etc

I just found a mini-scenario for Hammer that looks decent and should be about 45 min or so.

Rob: is Sunday WF2 with Jon an all day thing?

I could make it by sometime Sunday and Monday PM at DL.

email me your address.

At 10:24 PM, May 16, 2007, Blogger Rob said...

Mark, Jon has not confirmed, and he's kinda dodgy... he fears me and tends to cancel at the last minute (don't know why since he's won 99% of the wargames we play) as I drip brain juice from my nose from the rules cramming.

Either way, WF should be about 4 hrs long. If we start early, we should be done by 1pm.

Jon?

Brain juice? Nice!

At 8:34 AM, May 17, 2007, Blogger Jeff said...

I'd cancel at the last minute, too, rather than have to wipe up brain juice.

Will rob-con last through Monday evening? I'm taking the family camping this weekend. You know, it's too crowded for all of us cooped up in a hotel room, so we're going to be cooped up in a tent instead. There's a slight chance I'd be available Sunday evening, but I'm definitely available Monday evening if anyone will still be gaming.

I hate to miss Rob's last weekend...

Sean: yeah, 'cause you'll need a new target to bash when you game...

Send me an email: r3cube.at.msn.dot.com
so i can send you my cel no.

I might be playing Sun afternoon.... unless I pass out from the monster gaming.

But definitively, I'll be there on Monday 'til late.

Update

At present I have no opponent for Sat, and so I am now in the process of trying to make other plans.

I got a free pass for the weekend....

Ted, are you still looking for an opponent for Saturday AM? I'll commit to showing up if we have something definite planned.

Rob, I can make it anytime on Sunday. I wouldn't mind showing up earlier to watch a game of WFII just to see it in action before we play something else.

Rob and I may be playing East Front II on Sunday afternoon or

If you're up for it Rob, Jon, et al, an all day game of Eurofront II would be a fitting farewell for Rob.....

Mark: I'm willing and able to commit to Sat am. What's your pleasure? Liberty? See you at Amy and Jeff's 8-11:30.

Rob,

Thanks for the steady stream of updates on the main page.

I think after 3-4 hours of Die Macher, I'll be in the mood for a game that involves some form of slaying of plastic or cardboard pieces. Its your swan song weekend, so do you have any preferences in this direction?

At 9:47 AM, May 18, 2007, Blogger Jeff said...

I was thinking about Descent post-Macher (I'd be willing to Overlord if Ben wanted to play) which is about the most plasticky, slayingest game evar, but Rob's gaming wish is my command.

At 11:23 AM, May 18, 2007, Blogger Mark said...

Ted: we're on for 8am at Jeff & Amy's on Saturday.

Rob: I will call before heading to your place Sunday. I will need your address anyway.

Descent would totally rock, though I too bow to Rob's command on Saturday.

I don't mind being the Overlord again, either way really..., and we can even do one of the Care Bear (i.e., not totally unbalanced) scenarios if that is the group's desire. I do have the new expansion set (with the evil elf assassins and scary blood apes), but I'd need to digest the rules this evening if we go that far.

Alternately, there are lots of other forms of cardboard, wooden, and plastic death out there too... Shogun, Dune, Epic Duels, Axis and Allies, Doom, TI:3, Arkham Horror, Titan... all come to mind. There was a lot of A&A talk last week, in fact. Anyway, a few of these games require a bit of pre-game study, but I'll bring a car-load.

Thanks guys for all the "your wish is my command" stuff. I should leave from SA more often...

I'd love to do Arkham with any of Ben's expansions (4 players max), Shogun, Descent, TI3 (in that order of preference)....etc.

At 2:26 PM, May 18, 2007, Blogger Ben said...

Sorry, Michael... Axis and Allies gets no love from the Robster.

I'll bring Arkham (with both expansions irrevocably shuffled in, of course) and Descent...

Rob, perhaps you could bring Shogun?

Die Macher is currently set up on the upstairs table.

All we'll have to do in the morning is assign player colors, deal out the region cards, and deal out regional and party opinions.

niiiceeee....

You Ben, I may be Jaded. I tried regular A+A a long time ago, but I wasn't too excited about it. Perhaps it's tooooo abstract/too simplistic...in this age of CDG's, and massive block wargames. I'd be interested though in trying out the newer iterations (Bulge, the new pacific one, etc) at some point.

I'd really like join in on a game of Descent or Arkham on Saturday if there's room.

I'll be there at 8am, since I will have no gaming tonight (grr) or Monday (grrr). I'll bring the usually assortment of tripe.

Comment 29 to this post... perhaps the most ever?

Chris: I'm certain there will be room if we play Descent. I agree with Rob in capping Arkham at 4, but I'm sure those most motivated to play will be the ones choosing to be the first four. It sounds like we'll have two tables going most of the day!

Now I've got to go FINALLY finish Rob's dice tower tray, then feverishly review rule books...

At 9:55 PM, May 18, 2007, Blogger Rob said...

Ben, you have time to finish... hit the rulebooks. that's for tomorrow.

Cool Brian

Chris, if not Arkham, it looks like more people are showing up, so there will be other options. We can always do 5 player Shogun first....or 6(?) player Descent.

At 10:44 PM, May 18, 2007, Blogger Chad said...

I can make it at 8. I've been itching to play either Arkham or Descent recently.

At 1:08 AM, May 19, 2007, Blogger Chad said...

Ugg... when I said I was coming I had every intention of going to bed after the Spurs game. That didn't happen. I'll try to swing by around 10 or 11.

At 9:08 PM, May 19, 2007, Blogger Ben said...

Guys, if we plan to play Descent or Arkham Monday morning, do you mind if we play at someone's house? I really don't like taking such component and table-space intensive games into the retail environment. I'm happy to host, or anyone else's house would be fine too. We could then relocate to DL during the lunch break.

At 12:02 AM, May 20, 2007, Blogger Rob said...

I could certainly host for Arkham, Monday morn.
