I know, I know....

... broken record...beating a dead horse... Yes, we all agree that nothing compares to face to face gaming, but the sad truth is that I'm moving to Galveston around June, and don't know how long it will be until I get some gaming going.... not to mention.... the fact that I'm... going to mis... (sniff, cough)....

ANYWAYS, I need to gain some converts before I leave.

Anyone remotely interested in trying out Vassal online? For those of you not aware of it, Vassal is a free downloadable client that connects you to a central network where you can find all kinds of games being played online. Some of the games that can be played include Battle Lore, Combat Commander (I just screen captured that pic today...it blew me away), Twilight Struggle, Hammer of the Scots, EastFront 2, Carcassone, War of 1812, OGRE, etc etc etc... Think about it: no long setup/pick up times, most things automated, missing out on Monday night gaming doesn't need to be an issue anymore!

All you have to do is click here to begin. The How-to guide is here. May seem intimidating, but I can walk you through it. It's a lot simpler than it looks. Just shoot me an email, or call me.

Rob- I've already got it. When you're exiled to Galveston, we can do some two-player gaming, or hook up with my TN/GA gaming buddies (or the TX ones) for multiplayer.

Everybody- Another awesome online gaming resource is the LackeyCCG program, if you're into CCGs (and I know Rob is).

I'm always up for PBEM Twilight Struggle, though I suspect you'll find playing games like CoH or WoW are more fun over the Internet.

Jeff, LackeyCCG looks very cool, though perhaps you can demonstrate how it actually works sometime. The main problem I have with CCGs has always been the first "C", and this program seems to solve this issue.

Rob, I know that I have let you down as I told you that I was planning to download Vassel. I have to say that I got side-tracked. A buddy at work talked me into trying an INCREDIBLE online Massive Multi Player Game called EVE Online.

It took me a couple of days to go through the tutorial, but it is like nothing I have ever seen. The 14 day trial is free and one does not need to provide credit card info.

I confess this sin...

Must resist... WoW is all I can handle right now... and I only am able to devote a couple hours a week to it.

Those Vassal modules you posted, Rob, do look very well done.

They are.... in particular the Lock N Load, Combat Commander, Twilight Struggle, and EastFront2 (some of the ones I'm interested in) look GREAT.

No sweat Carlos. I know about the seductive power of online rpg's. But once you've expunged yourself from this addictive drug, we'll talk.

Sadly, Lackey is non-intuitive. Once I get the new version installed and running, I intend to write a brief guide to getting started with the software.

Excellent. I was drooling over the Lord of the Rings and Star Wars CCG plug-ins yesterday. I had great fun playing Magic On-Line back when it was a free beta. I noticed there's a Blue Moon plug-in as well.

Rob: Start up a game of TS whenever you're ready. When I've played in the past, each player played their cards on-line at the ACTs website (which keeps an on-line journal of the game, keeps score, tracks DEFCON, etc.) and maintained a VASSAL board on their PC to keep track of the action.

I'm your huckleberry. I'll give it a shot, Rob. Hell, Dana and I might just pop in and visit y'all for some weekend gaming.
