Halloween Gaming!! Sort of!!
Any day special enough to have greeting cards published for it, or special enough for postmen and Air Force colonels to get the day off is special enough for its own organized gaming extravaganza.
Amy and I are hosting all-day gaming October 28th. Roughly 10 am to midnight.
Don't expect decorations, costumes, or horror movies. Do expect games games games. I suppose some Halloween-themed games, like Fearsome Floors, might break out. Or we could play Phase 10. I can't think of anything scarier than that.
More details will be forthcoming. I'm posting this a bit early to make sure there's enough interest. Post opinions in the comments.
Dennis/Rick: Tell that "other" group you game with that they're invited, too.

28th Saturday? Hmmm... probably working. We'll see.
Argh! I'll be in Houston.
In addition to Halloween gaming, watch this space for Guy Fawkes Day, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, Boxing Day, New Year's, and MLK Day gaming events. Lots of free time and reasons to enjoy good games with good friends in the near future! (Amy and I won't be hosting all of them, but surely someone will.)
Brian: Are you and Jacqui still thinking about doing the SABG Hotel-con?
I'll be hosting this Saturday and the Saturday after Jeff's (I was planning on hosting that Saturday too, but a change of venue is great!). I'll be putting up the thread here soon.
Yay to having the house all to myself!
P.S. There will be Crokinole...
Bumped this post to the top of the list as it was about to fall off the main page.
I plan on being there on saturday.
Simon, bring Crokinole I really want to try this game out.
Dude, my board is never leaving the house. I hate to tell you. Big, fragile, expensive things don't like traveling by car.
By the way, if Brian doesn't host Friday, I can hold a shindig the night before the big day like Jeff did (then you can get some Crok on).
I'm going to push for this, but I'm not that hopeful. I might be able to pull off an evening or a few hours in the afternoon.
I can bring my cheaper but still functional Crokinole.
Question to whoever ends up hosting on Friday.... will there be any female presence? You see, my wife already said yes, but it may just as easily turn into a no specially if it's going to be an all guys thing.
Rob: Looks like this week's Friday night event will be at Brian and Jacqui's, so there should be at least one person with homogenous sex chromosomes there. Amy and I might make an appearance, so that would raise the count to two.
Dayna will be in town then, so if I were to host she would of course be there. Otherwise, I doubt I could make it to Brian's. Convincing her to go to Jeff and Amy's on Saturday will be tough enough...
Brian told me that his wife is not going to be there this week, so might not look to good for your wife to come along Rob.
Yep Jon, that is what brian said as I was walking out the door. Oh well.
We must not allow Mrs. Ramirez to escape! We must find a woman to attend Friday Night Gaming!!!
lol...thanks Jeff.
Sorry Rob, strike number two. Dayna doesn't want to come/host on Friday.
Better luck next time.
Rob, if your wife will be at FNG, I'll be sure to make it!
What? No strike three? Amy could go? Sweet. Let me know for sure.
Now of course, if the intent was to make this a guys FNG, that is fine by me too. No gripes.
Jeff, I can't make it; I'm playtesting my wife's game with a few friends. I look forward to joining you for one of these sessions, and I'd love to bring these two companies together some time soon. Hmmm, I may have to host a session....
I'll be there around 11AM, Jeff. Dayna should join up later (2-ish?).
Anything specific you want me to bring?
Simon (and everybody else, actually): Just check my collection on BGG and bring anything you want to play that I don't own.
I got the OK for several hours of gaming, so I'll be there. I doubt Meredith will come, but maybe.
I broke down and bought Betrayal at (the) House on the Hill. The Halloween theme was just too compelling, and I wanted to give some business to DL, too.
It looks interesting, but it's hard to say how it'll play. I would guess it's about mood and theme vs elegant mechanics and subtle tactical choices.
Looks like I can probably make this. If its not too late can someone toss the location info my way?
As for Betrayal, its not so much a board game as it is a quickie rpg. The rules are fiddly, the scenarios aren't exactly balanced, and luck plays a huge role. At the same time the game has quite a bit of suspense. Waiting to see what the haunt is and who will betray everyone is a lot of fun. If you read all of the flavor text on the cards you get a good old-school horror vibe. It basically comes down to whether you get into the right frame of mine, and it definately won't appeal to everyone.
Could someone email an address/directions/phone number to dugolini@a_certain_university.edu? Somehow I got busy this week and never got around to asking.
Gah... forgot to give an email address last night. hexxjo at aol.com.
