Weekend planning

I will be reuniting with members of my clan this weekend in a small East Texas town I've never heard of. Unless they are hardcore Settlers: Cities & Knights gamers, I'm probably not getting any gaming in this weekend. I figure I'd put it out there in case anyone else wanted to take the lead in planning something.

Which town? I'll bet I come from a far worse one.

I will finally be reuniting with members of my clan in a larger Southern Louisiana town. So I'm out. I'm only leaving like 2 weeks later than anticipated.

I actually have some prospects for gaming though. Acquire is a possibility.

Obviously it isn't as hardcore as S:C&K (I'm not hardcore enough to even say the full name).

I'm in Boston June 20-27.

Apparently Blood Bowl will be released for PC on June 26th, but won't be out for XBox until September. Hmmm...tough choices ahead.

I will be attending a two day long bachelorette party. And working. So I am out for anything this weekend. No hardcore gaming for me.

I will be hanging around this weekend; if however, any of you War of the Rings enthusiasts would like to school me on one of the expansion battles, I would roll out the red carpet. I've played vanilla a few times but I have yet to break in my expansion bits.

I will be around this weekend and other then cruising by my new employer's new HQ to get the lay of the land do not know of anything to keep me from gaming; of course even with that that still leaves my odds at 50% since I am not sure what my wife has planned. I would love to play War of the Ring but hardly qualify as expert or enthusiast and so would be little help in schooling anybody on expansions.

I'll be having a family reunion here in 78209. I don't expect the wife and child are ready for the hardcore grind that is Settlers: Cities and Knights. I'm doing a 20-mile run starting at 0500 hours Sunday to kick off Father's Day, followed by binge eating of mass quantities of pancakes. A coma will probably then follow. I'm hoping to make this process an annual family tradition.

I suspect we have a few players ready to play the hardcore grind that is War of the Ring with the expansion, so I look forward to the session report. I'm busy healing corruption so I'll be ready to venture into Mordor for more gaming 4th of July weekend.

Apparently, according to the latest Dice Tower podcast, this game is fun PBEM: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Saga

Any interest?

I am probably out for Saturday; definitely out for Saturday morning; but possible for Sunday if something comes together and probable for Monday. Does the PBEM require owning a set I would presume?

The game is "free" abandonware. Just go to Home of the Underdogs (one of my favorite websites) to snatch it. So... PBEM is free.

I'm going going to e-mail the Podcast commentator for details on how to make the PBEM work, as the game was originally designed as a FtF computer game / board game hybrid.

Played just a short bit of the new XBL MtG. Good fun, though so far I've just seen the vanilla, basic style MtG cards without any of the more interesting mechanics. Oh, Home of the Underdogs also has the old Sid Meier MtG game, with expansion, which I quite enjoyed.

I will probably be out Sunday, I think we are going to head to Austin for the day. If anyone wants to play WOTR Saturday send me a geekmail(Squatting Monkey), you can either come over to my house (near Alamo Heights) or we can meet up in the store. Try to let me know by around noon so I don't take off. Everyone have a wonderful Father's Day weekend!

I tried the XBox MtG at Ben and Rob's suggestion. It's really good for what it is. Great graphics, flows well, well designed mechanically for a game with interrupts. I'm not sure I get all of the strategies, but it's fun, just like Blood Bowl will be. If you like MtG, you'll certainly like it, but if you're not a fan, it won't change your mind. It's got a co-op campaign mode, so I'm interested to see how that works out. Is it collectible? Not yet, but it certainly will be, since one of the main menu bars on the title page is "Download Content." I imagine with 15+ years of cards to choose from, that thing will continue to have purchase options for a long time to come.

Oh, when is a lead in the bottom of the ninth inning not "gg?" When you're facing the TEXAS LONGHORNS! The Horns hit two home runs in the bottom of the ninth against Arizona State (the first to tie the game, the second to win it) to advance to a best-of-3 matchup against Michael's undefeated LSU Tigers for the national championship. College baseball gets no real publicity (and to be honest, even baseball at its best can be tedious to watch, and this is not baseball at its best), but it should be fun. GO HORNS!

Home of the Underdogs was great. I even contributed several games that had my name on them on the old site (found them at old game stores here in SA and sent them to the admin of the old site at her request). I'm glad the old one is gone, though, because the owner of the old one stopped updating it several years ago but also refused to let anyone else take it over and keep it alive, which was irritating and nonsensical. With the old site now gone, other people are now free to reincarnate it, and I think they'll be much better custodians in the long run. With active participants, it should be somewhat akin to a BGG of old PC games. Nice to see it kept alive.

Wow, it had been a while since I had been to HotU, so I missed some of the drama apparently. I was wondering why some of the components of the old site, such as the choose your own adventue book archive, were missing. Still, I was still able to find pretty much everything I was looking for. Last night I played some Panzer General 2.

Okay, I suck at MtG. Of course this is something I have known since 1994.
