The Apathy Board Gaming Monday + Request
When I arrived at the gaming venue, Chris, Brian and Sean were racing for that far away galaxy while I perused the comics. Apparently a lot of people like sword wielding mice. At least enough for there to be action figures. Sean came to fetch me and we settled down for a game of hmmm what shall we play. I suggested Tikal, jokingly, cause it was still in my bag o games from Saturday. Brian suggested Alhambra, and Sean voted for Tongiaki. We ended up playing Puerto Rico. Sean's corn economy and my diversified economy lost to the sugar plants Chris had going, but Brian and his bonus shipping VP's pulled it out for the win.
With about 10 minutes left in out game Jon and Michael arrived, and Al had arrived sometime earlier. So they decided to play Race. We finished up Puerto rico and were left with a well....hmmm.....what now thing. So we played no thanks. I did not win. Yay high cards. Then we played bridge, to pass the time. And the table of Go-ers commented on the oddity bridge in the comic book shopness.
It was established that Jon and Sean -- me thinks-- were going to play baseball. But in an odd twist of fate-- no one brought their teams. So we set out to find a game to play that we could do seven with.
But Michael played the food game.
And we played The Devil's Ride to the Castle game. Oddly enough the table was divided quite easily in half. The guys with the keys won it both times, though the goblets almost got it in the end. if they hadn't stolen all out goblets so we had to get them back and not win. But ah well. Al left after game one. And Michael wandered back with his prize from the food game.
Then Brian called it quits. And that left me, Jon, Sean, Chris and Michael to play Smarty Party. Which I lost at. Wonderfully. As per usual as these party trivia games the group seems to like. But it was fun. Though the difference between Rail and Subway as modes of transportation is a bit iffy.
And on to the request. I wanna start another spielbywebgame. Maybe Tikal. Maybe Santiago. Maybe Amun-Re. Maybe all three. Anyone want to join. I would much prefer to play Tikal in person. But unless random peeps wanna play and gather apartment for a smallish gaming session I doubt that will happen. so SBW it is. Any takers. i think most of the peoples in here know my BGG name. Which is Toggy. So message me if you is interested. Or comment. Please :)

I see you've rated "Trivial Pursuit - Lord of the Rings Movie Trilogy Edition" as your highest rated game at 10/10. Have you played Fantasy Flight Games' Lord of the Rings Trivia? Its one of Michael's favorites.
Yeah. I have a soft spot for that trivia game. Even though the stupid making movies category is a pain. Unless the answer is Sean Asten. But I digress. I have not played the other LotR trivia game. But I would most certainly be willing to try. I'm willing to try anything game wise these days. But LotR trivia is always fun.
Oh crap.
Please tell me those weren't Mouse Guard action figures. Amy will be on those like ugly on an ape.
You had an issue with Smarty Party answers? Shocking! Not.
Yeah. Those were Mouse Guard figures. I mean... nope. didn't see a thing. They most certainly weren't on the end of the row near Cloud and his motorcycle from FFVII. Nope.
I'm up for any spielbywebbing. amun-ra was fun. tikal is great there - you have plenty of time to think about things without feeling like you're boring people to death.
Yay for Sean agreeing to play a game with me. Now I need other peoples to agree. I want some fresh blood-- i mean new people to corrupt--eeerrrrr convince that Tikal is awesome. :) Much better in person. But sufficient on SBW.
Almost a fine rant, but far too polite.
Shadowfax's stirring monologues rival anything from Shakespeare. In Michael's world.
I'll tell you about my Peter Yarrow (I know, just google it) encounter next time we game.
Rant -- who was ranting. I admit to some confusion.
i might be up for sbw but will need to be talked through how it works
You had me at "sword wielding mice action figures". When does the second series come out in graphic novel form?
Must play more SBW.
Not a rant against Smarty Party? My apologies, perhaps it was wishful thinking on my part. Let me give it a try.
Smarty Party should never be played again. It's clearly the source of rickets, global warming, and locusts. It wrote the second solo of Green Grass and High Tides. It does NOT list its beard on its donor card. I will play it no more forever.
I feel better...or...was it Mare Nostrum that was responsible for such atrocities?
Amy: You shall have more sbw. Really you shall. Though I opt for in person. As unlikely as that one is ;) And I dont know about the second graphic version of Mouse Guard. I know they had a hard cover all in one looking book for it. And the figurines.
So I have a go for Amy, a go for Sean, and a maybe for Scott. I explain after this the simplicity of SBW.
Anyone else? Any other takers. I don't mind several games. Really. I need something to occupy myself when I can't game cause of moving and them the exam. And as much as i enjoy playing with Amy and Sean and Jeff, it is refreshing to play with new people as well.
In my humble opinion SBW is rather simple. But fantastic. Once you have a log in and join a game you are directed through a series of actions. There is a java script style board where you can see, in Tikal shall we say, where the other people have placed their pieces, and where your pieces are, and things like that. So you just wait until you are emailed that it is your turn. Take a few clicks of the mouse. And wait until you are notified again. Repeat until game end.
We should have at least one good rant per week.
LOTR Trivia: not quite the worst $5 game I ever purchased.... still, my record is 1-0.
Ship, Kingsport, ship!
Next week brings Heroscape Wave 8, plus the jungle expansion. I'm in too deep to stop now.
I just tried reading the first issue of Mouse Guard, but I had to stop. At least to me, mice are much more gross than cute. I really liked Maus, but Mouse Guard isn't for me. Now back to a bit of Hellboy.
