Gaming, Saturday, 14 Apr 2007

Who is up for more Saturday morning gaming action? I think I can tear myself away from income tax preparation and playing Command & Conquer 3 long enough to get some good board gaming in. Arkham Horror still sits on the ramp idling its engines; War of the Ring is always a favorite, and I need to restore myself to winning status after my recent loss to Steve; and of course there's more Struggle for Rome; Viking Fury; Perikles... the list goes on as you all know.

PS: Anyone else playing C&C3? I'm thinking best... RTS... ever! Perhaps not as elegant as Company of Heroes, but a total ton of fun.

If anyone is interested in monitoring our SABG game of Wallenstein, just swing by Spielbyweb and look for the game entitled SABG. I can't post the link right now as the evil net monitors at my daytime operating location block the site.

I'm up for Saturday gaming. I'm open pretty much anything, but WotR is out unless you just want an easy victory.

Okay, it sounds like we'll have at least 3 players total. Awesome!

Steve: I can start as early as 0700 hours.

Anyone else?

If anyone wants to materialize slightly later in the morning, please don't let the 0700 start time deter you.

Now to finish the taxes this evening....

Okay, here's a quick session report:

We ended up with only two players this morning. Steve and I played a quick game of Dooku vs. Boba Fett in SW: Epic Duels while we waited to see if anyone else would show up. A very tightly played match ensued with us both having only our main characters left and having only two health apiece. Unfortunately, Dooku had closed the range to much and before Boba could jet away he was vivisected! Ouch! Good job, Steve!

Giving up on any others appearing, we decided to play WotR. We switched sides this time, with me taking on the super mean forces of evil. I focused this game on punishing the Fellowship at every turn. I recruited the variant witch king and planted him on the Fellowship along with two Nazgul. So, I had three hunt rerolls plus usually three hunt dice in the box. By the time they reached Mordor, only Legolas remained and the cup was filled with red tiles.

Steve did an excellent job even with this adversity. He made it all the way to the final spot of Moria and decided to push it. Unforunately, I had the red Smeagol card (which let's me "reroll" my hunt tile draw), plus about 75% chance of autokilling the Fellowship on the next draw. Sure enough, I drew an evil eye tile. Ouch! Hooray for the evil side! Even though I won, I hate seeing Frodo bite it right on the brink.

Great game, Steve!

War of the RIng will never let you down when you need a two player game! I wish that I could have made it to the Dog House.
