Creative title with subtle in-joke
I’ve played ninety of BGG’s top 200 games. I considered making a New Year’s resolution to get the played number up to 105 or 110 by the end of 2007, but then realized how difficult that would be. Obviously, I’d be aiming at a moving target. Dozens of new games are released every year and several end up highly ranked (at least initially). Even without an influx of new games, the rankings still shift. Also, about twenty-five of the remaining 110 are abstracts and hardcore wargames. It’s unlikely that I’ll ever play those. Several of the top games are hard to find (Hannibal: Rome vs Carthage, Republic of Rome) or take all weekend to play (Civilization, 7 Ages). It was a nice idea, but there’s just too many factors working against me. On the up side, a resolution that hasn’t been made is one that can’t be broken.
But if I had gone through with the plan, here’s the games I’d be looking to play:
Leonardo da Vinci – This was seeing a lot of play locally, but then it suddenly stopped.
Through the Desert – I know, I know. I can’t believe I haven’t played it, either.
Thurn and Taxis – Any SdJ winner is worth a try.
Imperial – Antike was not a hit locally, although I liked it. We’ll see if Mac Gerdts’ rondel gets a warmer welcome this time.
Stephenson’s Rocket – Knizia + Trains = High Potential (and I happen to know a member of the group is getting a copy soon)
Easy trivia question number 19: Who’s the actor in the picture above?

Toshiro Mifune: Seven Samurai?
No, wait.... its Yojimbo
Yep.
And you got the movie on the second guess.
Mr. Mifune is one of my favorite actors. Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, and Sanjuro are all great. I'm not crazy about Hidden Fortress, but it's okay. I think I'd like Ran and Throne of Blood more if I didn't know they were remakes of King Lear and Macbeth, respectively.
I need to Netflix some more Mifune/Kurosawa flicks.
I actually started my "unplayed list" earlier this morning ... ah well.
Woo hoo! Unassisted by Google, of course.
I totally enjoy all those you listed, but I'd definitely add Rashomon to the list as well. That movie really creeps me out, but its awesome. Hidden Fortress is good to watch just to see where Lucas pulled a lot of ideas for Star Wars from. Throne of Blood I really enjoyed... especially the final battle scene where the Macbeth character gets taken out. I think Seven Samurai is probably in my top 5 movies of all time.
For non-Kurusawa action, Mifune's Samurai trilogy are very good. Oh, if you're into the samurai movie genre, The Sword of Doom (non-Mifune; non-Kurusawa) is a great one I recently watched... its available at the SA Public Library. If you enjoyed the big fight in Kill Bill Vol. 1, you'll dig this one.
Oh... and my copy of Leonardo just appeared on the BGG marketplace... as did Space Dealer... I'm being pretty merciless these days to my eurogames. If I can picture myself happy in a world where I never play a particular game again and it is selling for a good price, the game is out the door, baby!
I need to make shelf space for Tide of Iron....
I own both Republic of Rome (never played) and Stephenson's Rocket (played on occasion, similar in many ways to Acquire).
I think the subtle in-joke is that Yojimbo is the man w/ no name, and this post is the post w/ no title.
Am I right or is there something else I'm missing?
Wadda got against King Lear? Ran blew me away.
You post your games, BGG goes down. Clever, my friend!
I've been tempted to play RoR again. Its been long enough since my last game ...
Ben, I'll totally take Space Dealer off your hands! Shoot me an email.
Yes, I must have blown away the site with all the traffic going after my insanely good deals!
Ted, good observation!
Hey, I'm also a big Mifune/Kurosawa fan. Favorites include the Seven Samurai, Ran, and Yojimbo. I still haven't seen Rashomon. Jeff, there was a western that came out in the late sixties or early seventies called "Red Sun" that starred Charles Bronson and Toshiro Mifune. Yes, he plays a Samurai guarding some gold and a Japanese ambassador (if I recall correctly). Not a great film, but it's alwyas fun to see Toshiro Mifune play the badass samurai.
BTW, I'm always willing to play Thurn and Taxis. I'll bring my copy to the next session I attend.

I simply couldn't come up with a title I liked, so I went with a generic one. I like your idea much better. The pic of Mifune was a semi-random choice, too.
I frequenly look at noise and find a spurious pattern. It's kind of like a mutant power. I mean, it's not great for fighting crime, and I doubt the X-men will call. Still, you go w/ what you got.
I picked up RoR some years back, but I was never able to figure this oue out. Would love to play.
Another though occured to me today as Brian was killing me in Combat Commander. If you're into the samurai thing, I'm confident you'd enjoy the Usagi Yojimbo series of comics/graphic novels by Stan Sakai. I'm reading the Space Usagi TPB right now, and it is great fun. I have the back catalog if anyone is interested...
