Gaming Around XMas

Now that Friday has come and gone (well, some of you are still gaming, but there's the rest of us) -- What plans do people have for Sun/Mon/Tues? I have no idea if the store will be open on Monday (I'll be out of town), but I could meet people Tuesday. I may host Sunday night (check in the comments) if people are interested.

As for gaming between now and Jan 2nd, I'd be up for another large game (Here I Stand, for example). I did get into a PBEM game via ACTS. Once I get the hang of it, perhaps we can run a SABG PBEM or two. (I know others have suggested this before). Ya'll could revive your Twilight Struggle tournament via email.

Or I could play BattleLore and Combat Commander (which I'm anxious to try).

My top want to play list:

-- Battle Lore
-- Combat Commander
-- East Front

Other games I'm interested in:

-- either Here I Stand or 7 Ages (not both)
-- Twilight Struggle
-- Wizard Kings (short block game)
-- Reef Encounter

Games I'm willing to play:

-- most

I won't be playing anything until probably Thursday due to holiday festivities.

If anyone (or more than one) would like to get together Thursday, I'd be up for it.

Oh, the official date I'm now proposing for TI:3 is now 30 December....

Well Here I Stand arrived in the mail today (before combat commander!!!!!!!! oh the pain....), so I'm not going to pass up an opportunity to play this. Brian, I would try to set this one up as soon as possible to have everyone review the rules and "HiS for dummies" article.

Next week, 12/26 and 12/28 look good for me. I may have a game of HotS with Rick probably on 12/28, but that's only 3 hrs. 12/29 in the afternoon MAY be good too.

I'd also like to play, but surely won't get to play all:

- Battle Lore
- CC
- EF
- WK (Ted, the nostalgia...back when 6:45 pm was 15 minutes early... brilliant line by the way)
- Space Dealer with advanced rules
- Shogun (which will arrive on 12/26!!)

I'm off through the 2nd. I'm interested in (in order of preference):

- Shogun
- Here I Stand
- Combat Commander
- Battle Lore
- Hammer of the Scots (finally)
- any of the many games (all unknown) that sit beneath the Christmas tree

Ted, I own Reef Encounter and could show play it with you at some point in the future (and, yes, I can now teach it).

Tuesday is the only day that is currently booked (and part of Thursday w/ Rob).

OK, it looks like 12/28 is open for m for HiS. Any other takers?

HiS (shouldn't this be HIS?)

I'm confused about Th gaming. If Rob and Rick are going to play Hammer, it could be difficult to schedule HiS, right?

Tues is iffy for me, but I might be able to carve out a few hours for something like a euro.

I'd love to schedule a longer 2 player wargame for Wed (12/27), either at my place or otherwise. EastFront is my first choice, but I'm open to other suggestions: PV, Shifting Sands, Twilight Struggle, Wilderness War, Fire in the Sky, etc etc.

Looks like Th (12/28) may be HiS, but if Rob and Rick are going to play Hammer, I'd love to do repeat plays of a shorter wargame: Combat Commander, Battle Lore, Battle Cry, War of 1812, Zero, etc

If you're interested, then in the name of all that's holy let me know!

Sounds like Sat (12/30) might be TI:3. How many does the game allow, and how many are interested? We might be able to do my place, but I'll have to negotiate that with Meredith.

When is open gaming w/ euros?

Ted: Let's play BattleLore on Thursday starting at 1000 AM. :) We can continue with some others, perhaps Twilight Struggle if you wish.

TI:3 plays 3-8 players... I think it would be total chaos with any more than 6 unless most/all were expert players.

I'm fine with HIS on Thursday if others are interested. I'll probably be gaming at least one other day, assuming that the kids get better.

Rick signed up for HIS (yes , 'i' guess it should be 'I').

I sent out emails with the 20 minute guide. Let me know if you are interested at r3cube@msn.com

Al! I don't have your email...

BTW, I have 12/26 completely open for any kind of gaming.... probably euros and/or Battle Lore.

I work on 12/30. No TI3 for me.

AND it looks like we have Rick, Jon, Brian and I for HIS for now. 2 more spots available.

At 9:51 PM, December 23, 2006, Blogger Rob said...

OK Ben confirmed. We have one more spot left.

This is what it's looking like:

Jon: Hapsburgs
Rick: Ottoman
Me: England
Brian: ? I'm guessing Protestant.
Ted: ?
Al: ?
Ben: ?

I've been out of the loop w/ a cold, but I just emailed my reservation for HIS. I don't have a preference on which power. I'll be sure to study the 20 guide and at least skim the rules.

At 5:12 PM, December 25, 2006, Blogger Rob said...

Cool....so ted makes 6.

Well, the undecided can wing it as long as a few (Brian, me, others) have read the whole rulebook. But you should at the very LEAST, master the 20minute guide.

As I mentioned in the email, I'm already playing Protestant in my PBEM. Given the choice between the Pope and the France, I'll take the Papacy (since I've done plenty of military stuff). This will also give me a calmer first turn or two, which will allow me to help with rules more.

At 6:31 PM, December 25, 2006, Blogger Brian said...

That leaves the Protestants and France.

At 1:04 AM, December 26, 2006, Blogger Rob said...

Ben: France as per the last email

and therefore Ted: Protestants.

At 2:24 AM, December 26, 2006, Blogger Al said...

Is the game full? If not, I'll take the protestants.

Oops, I misunderstood. Is Brian taking the Protestants? Which countries are left? Thanks for reserving me a spot!

Is anyone going to the DL today (Tues 12/26)?

At 9:50 AM, December 26, 2006, Blogger Rob said...

Simon, I could, but I really shouldn't because I need to read the whole HIS manual for Thurs and CC for Friday (and I'm working tomorrow).

At 9:52 AM, December 26, 2006, Blogger Rob said...

And, sorry Al. ALl the spots are full now. We tried, but I didn't have your email.

No prob. Just wondering.

At 3:25 PM, December 26, 2006, Blogger Al said...

I misunderstood. I saw the list of people with a spot reserved with my name on it and thought I was included. My e-mail is number656@yahoo.com

At 3:48 PM, December 26, 2006, Blogger Ben said...

Al: Why don't you take my spot as the French? I'm still not 100% I have reliable transport on Thursday due to my car still being in the shop, plus you've already played once.

At 9:10 PM, December 26, 2006, Blogger Rob said...

Al? You want the French?

At 1:00 AM, December 27, 2006, Blogger Al said...

Well, yes I would, but are you sure, Ben? I don't want to take your spot, and the fact that you haven't played isn't that big a handicap. Why don't I show up as an alternate. If Ben or anyone doesn't make it, I'll fill in. What time are you planning to start?

At 6:03 PM, December 27, 2006, Blogger Jonathan W. said...

10am is the planned starting time.
