Dragon's Lair, Monday, 16 Oct 2006
I think I will be able to make it to DL tomorrow night, which means it will be another day or so before I get the Dune maps printed for Jon and Rob. Who else is coming? I can be there safely by 1700 hours.
I'll play whatever, but there are a lot of two player games I've been wanting to play, like Lock 'N Load, Victoria Cross, Wilderness War, Blue Moon (the card version), etc. Of course, there's a lot of multi-player stuff I'd love to play. I do hope to try Scepter of Zavandor sometime. Please reply to this post if you're coming and are interested in playing something in particular.
I'm getting close to having a pile of wooden Dice Towers constructed, which I'll give away to various members of SABG who want one and pass a suitable feat of skill/geekness. The first will go to the first identifier of the dragon pictured above. You also have to name his slayer. No Googling, please!

I plan on being there safely by 1730. I would like to try Lock 'n Load or Victoria Cross (I've already learned the rules for the Alamo) or try some Euros.
Would like a dice tower but can only guess at the dragon...is it from the D&D cartoon or Smaug from the Hobbit?
I plan to arrive about 6:30 or so. I'll bring some or all of the following: Ra, Puerto Rico, Settlers, Beowulf.
Isn't that the dragon from that arcade game?
Oh what was it called...?
Oh right- DRAGON'S LAIR.
(I didn't google either)
Oh and I don't know the dragon's name or the slayer. The princess was Dafney though, I think?
Dunno.
I will be there and match anyone's time.
Simon is on to something...
Yeah, I remember playing it once in an arcade and sucking hard at it. I already googled the answer, so I can't say anymore. I didn't know the hero's name, but I sure had a moment of clarity after reading the dragon's (i.e. hand smack to the forehead)!
If no one else gets it the hard way, its yours. I'm playing the laser disc version right now via the Daphne emulator.
Come on guys! I saw the pic and 9 posts and thought that for sure someone had gotten it by now.
Dirk (the dude) and Singe (dragon). No googling. Just a true geek who enjoyed burning away his hard earned quarters playing this annoyingly hard game as a kid.
Don't mind the extra dice tower.
I can be there by 1pm. Anyone else? I should leave by 4pm though. Let me know here or call.
Well, I'm glad you don't mind the extra one...
:P
Rob: My plan is to try. I need to print and mail some stuff for the insurance company before I show up. I'll give you a call as soon as I finish. You would need to bring the games though.
Oh and Dennis:
We should play Kremlin again :)
Don't worry. I have about 5 towers in the production line right now. I just need to finish and nail, and they'll be ready.
Mark: I'll bring Victoria Cross. My copy of Lock 'n Load is tied up with my 50% complete battle for Carentan between me and evil Ben.
Kremlin..... heard great things about that classic. Someday...
Lock 'n Load.... heard great things about that classic. Someday...
No prob Michael. Let me know by noon if you can. I'll bring some random stuff.
I will absolutely be there today, hopefully by 6pm. I'll be bringing Kremlin and Industrial Waste, because I heard this wild rumor that Michael wants to play them again. And I'll bring Fussball Taktik in case a mini-World Cup breaks out.
The great thing about Lock 'n Load is the game system is so stream-lined. The game literally keeps all the cool parts of ASL and throws out all the minutia. Initially I was concerned about how you could get rid of certain key aspects of ASL and still keep things realistic and engaging. However, in reading the rules and playing my first game (solo) I was very impressed with the design choices made to keep the flavor and intensity intact. The game can literally be set up and explained for the first time in about 30 minutes max.
....and then played in 1-2hrs.
Don't do any of the scenarios with the SUPER SECRET triggered events. I haven't looked at them hoping that I can actually play them out some day.
