You don't call, you don't write...

I skip writing one Monday night call to arms and the blog goes dead for a week? Sheesh.

I'll be there on Monday. I just got back from a convention in Houston which went pretty well, although I didn't get to try out that many new games. (Played lots of classics, though). I did see lots of new games being played, though. The ludic equivalent of Tantulus. Fortunately for me, the grapes games looked sour. One of the games I saw was Heads of State, which one website has for dirt cheap (limited time offer). I'm not sure if it's good, though.

Is there a list somwhere of these Local, (Houston, Austin, San Marcos, San Antonio) type conventions? where would I find such a list? Played Power Grid China against my brother this week, liked the two player with the closed market. Tomorrow I will probably be at St Josephs Society Hall (405 Durango)playing Mordheim 500 GP multiplayer Treasure-hunt. This is part of the first Sunday of the month Gaming hosted by Alamo Gamers found on yahoo Groups.

Well, I don't know if there's a list. There's ChimeraCon in March, and Austin has one or two during the year. And there's OwlCon (does A&M or UT have a convention?)

This last weekend was basically like a slightly larger saturday gaming session. Big enough to be at a hotel (hence, admission fees) but also a private function -- invite only. I knew 4-5 of the participants (and Jacqui also knew them). Depending on how many people they want to have next year, we can probably get several more locals invited.

Those are actually my preferred type of conventions. (Jacqui and I have hosted several "Cons" at our house for a weekend, and organized one at a hotel for a slightly larger group). Depending on weekend and hotels, you can probably run one for a few hundred dollars (for a business conference room), particularly if you get a few people to stay at the hotel.

TAMU does Aggie con every year, Comics, Writers, RPG, Mini's, Anime, Costume Ball, Midnight outdoor screening of Rocky Horror, assorted games, convention (dealers) room and open gaming.
I used to attend every year, though it's been a while.

Owlcon in Houston in Feb or March is great too (they have a URL... but feeling lazy to google it), but it's scheduled gaming which I'm not fond of.

brian, that's what I loved about the Houston group. They really like sticking to the classics (as well as trying the occasional new game). Lemme guess...you played Caylus with Marty, and a guy named Mike.

BTW, Owlcon is free if you can GM any game...but you have to signup around Nov-Dec of the previous yr. Last yr I ran a 6 player 8hr game of Here I Stand.

Ok, last but not least... I sent Andrew from the meetup an email. I offered to 'xplain and play a game of Agricola, which I know he tried to play a couple of weeks ago. Gotta keep the newbies coming back...

I shall write up my geeklist on the event when I am home, with my list of the 29 games that I played.

I had the best game of tichu ever. EVER. Too bad I know it will NEVER happen again. :sigh:

saw your list brian. Didn't see Caylus so I was wrong.

Oh, and the Agricola "tutorial" is only a 'maybe' now.

I'll be back next Monday and I'm game to play Agricola if Andrew comes back. I'm game to play Agricola regardless...
