Friday Night Gaming
I'll host Friday Night. Jacqui will be traveling for her yearly Market trip. Last year she spent 8 hours in the airport and then came back home, but the weather looks more promising now...
I should have my copy of Imperial by then. But who knows?
Holy cow! Michael, Jon, and Rob are going to be back in town! Woo hoo!
I actually picked up Perikles even though I knew you had it because of my interest in the subject. I've been reading a lot of classical history lately, plus listening to the Teaching Company CDs on the subject. Herodotus and Thucydides are two favorites of mine since college days. So, the wafer thin pasted on theme should seem quite tasty! Incidentally, for a very negative review of the game jump over the Austin Game Ranch website (link on Brian's web page).
Sticking with the theme of Perikles... as the ancient Greeks carved on the Temple of Apollo at Delphi, "Μηδὲν ἄγαν", or "Nothing in excess," meaning you should always lead a balanced life. Looking at the former closet in my house that now looks like a gaming store stockroom, I'm beginning to wonder if I'm following this dictum. So, I understand where you're coming from, Simon.
Anyway, I'll probably be scarce for a few weeks as I start another semester at night plus manage contractors at the house...
10 Comments:
Imperial has arrived!
Perikles, Midgard, and Elkfest have arrived at my house. Cave Troll and the newest Runebound expansion should be here next week...
Is anyone showing up?
I think I can make it, if no one else can make it brian me can always play more CC.
Ben. I hope you didn't pick up Perikles because I got it and have been pretty excited about trying it out...
it looks like a winner though IMO (ie it's got elements I truly enjoy). Would like to try it on 1/15.
I might be able to make it.

I'm kind of strung out on boardgames. I think I'm going to take a break for a while.

Simon, I feel your pain. I just came back from PR, and I feel like I went through rehab. The cravings are not as bad (for now).
