Incoming! Gaming at Dragon's Lair, Monday, 6 Mar 2006
Hello, friends! I just flew in from St. Louis, and boy, are my arms tired! [Insert rim shot here]
Now that I'm back, I'm anxious for a return visit to the world of board gaming. Hopefully others are interested in meeting Monday at Dragon's Lair. I'll be there around 1700 hours with an armload of fun.

I will be there at 7:00pm.
Fantastic. Game on!
I'll be there, I think.
It's probably going to be closer to 6 or 7 PM when I get there now as well...
I'll come I suppose. Perhaps I'll call ahead too, to peel someone away for a two player game if everyone is so intent on starting up a full compliment game. Or maybe I'll just announce my presence with a bugle...yeah, that sounds like fun.
Violins ....
I'll be there by 7pm. I'll bring my usual block game repertoire just in case. And now that I have Arkham, I feel like trying it out again at some point (specially since we missed one or two things, and there are some very interesting variants in FF's website).
Arkham! I'd love to play again.
The house rules at FFG definitely are interesting and add additional challege to the game. The two monsters out of the first portal is a good one, I think, to keep a cheap first turn win from happening.
I tried the 2 monsters per portal opened in a 7 player game, and boy, we got slammed. Before we knew it, 5 gates were open (the max in a 7 player game), Yugohoth (or something) woke up and slaughtered us. We didn't even try to fight it.
I didn't even get to try the "open 2 portals after reaching 6 doom tokens" variant.
I'm thinking of making a small player aid that focuses only on the different things you can do on the board, to be handed off to new players: shops to buy items, train skills, magic spell shop, the deputy stuff, the bank loan, the inner sanctum "fraternity" , etc. I find that all these options are overwhelming for new players.
A 7-player game?? Wow! Bring those six other people along too!
You know.... it was WAY too long. I think 4 or less is the best. Maybe 5 if all are VERY clear about the rules, and move efficiently.
I was one of the 7 people in the Arkham Horror game, and I can say it was too much. Except for Rob, we were all playing our first game. I'm really impressed with it, but it's quite a lot of game to tackle. 6 newbies at one go is a bit too much.
I'm looking forward to playing again, though. It has a great theme, great production values, and I like the RPG aspect.
Oh, I plan to be there Mon night, and I plan to tell another friend, too. I'll probably get there about 7 or so.
BTW, last week a guy (Simon? I don't know everyone anymore) showed up after we were well into AGoT. He watched for a bit, then left. I kinda felt bad. Not too sure what to do about it. We started up with the folks on-hand, and we were maxed out. Maybe we should consider running multiple smaller games that aren't maxed out? Maybe it's just a hazard of gaming, like broken bones in footbal. Dunno. Just thought I'd mention it.
tmk
I was just kidding mostly. It's not a biggie as it's a pretty tough problem to solve. I doubt anyone here wants to have sign-ups for every game that gets tabled (I know I don't). It just isn't practical.
Sometimes you gotta' give and go. Such is life.
I'd encourage everyone to pass out this web address to any innocent bystanders at upcoming game sessions. The more regular participants we have the better.
....you can always count that I'll bring cool 2 player games for the loners.
A little off topic, but how can a first turn win happen in AH? I'll try to be there around 6pm btw.
you are right. It should be impossible. It's either:
-seal 6 gates
-close gates=no. of players.
-kill big mama jama
Essentially IMPOSSIBLE.... unless you are playing solo....are sucked in to the other world as the gate opens on you, AND have a special magic spell that allows you to instantly leave the "other world" and close it up (forgot the name of it but it's not one of the seal spells).
I think the new 1.1 rules say you are "delayed" when you are sucked in.
