Daydreaming about the Next Box on my Doorstep...

Yes, I totally agree, the image posted with the last posting is quite disturbing if you look at it for more than a second or two. So, moving right along...

Anyway, here is a little discussion question (hence The Riddler's image here):

What is the next game you think you'll buy (or, if counting pre-orders, which will show up next)? Why do you want it? It could be board, card, miniature, video, whatever.

My answer is GMT's Ship of the Line, which should appear any day now. Its a huge expansion to Flying Colors, covering tactical ship-to-ship combat in the age of the fighting sail in the North American theater. The expansion also includes revised and updated rules for the game system. Why do I want it? Because I can't resist getting expansions to base games I enjoy, and some of the battles, such as Quiberon Bay, are incredibly interesting to learn more about.

How about you?

Ship of the Line is on the way here as well. Flying Colors will have to wait until they print it again, but it seems they will do so.

Boards and Bits is sending a BIG box my way right now. Second copy of the Memoir 44 stuff is coming so I can do the Overlord stuff with all the figures. Do I need it? No. Do I want it? Hell, yes. I really wanted to see Unhappy King Charles, so I got that as well, plus a few GMT counter trays for the Ship of the Line and the upcoming Combat Commander: Normandy. Plus I got a copy of the 4th edition Talisman stuff (yes, I got the FFG one, not the Black Industries one--man, "Black Industries" sure has a bad connotation now).

I almost had them hold the stuff for the new Arkham Horror and the new Memoir '44 expansions, but I changed my mind.

I thought about getting Stone Age but passed. After talking with Rob, I don't think it would be so compelling that I HAD to have it, especially when I've got Pillars of the Earth. I also thought about getting In the Year of the Dragon, Hannibal, and Tribune, but I'll maybe look for those in a math trade instead rather than shell out for new versions.

I got Conflict of Heroes as well in a GeekAuction because it had gotten such good reviews. I'm trying to wrap my mind around the rules but I'm so accustomed to Combat Commander, and Conflict of Heroes does things so differently that I'm not sure how much I'll end up liking it.

Almost got a copy of Age of Steam 2nd ed, but someone else bid more than me. I would have sold my Railroad Tycoon and Rails of Europe if I had gotten it--I still may. Guess I'll have to settle with playing Brian's copy for now. I also wouldn't mind a copy of Acquire (I'll still take that copy Jon if you have it) or Air Baron, but again, unless something fortuitous comes up, I think I'll just rely on others in the group to have them around from time to time.

Like Ben, I'm waiting for Blood Bowl to come out. Does anyone have any idea if you can do multiplayer leagues over XBox Live?

Oh, Memorial Day weekend gaming just opened wide up. Let's plan something. A day for TI3 would be nice...

No board games for me on the horizon. Instead it's this:

1. Just reserved a copy of UFC Undisputed: 2009, for pickup next Tuesday.

2. I'll be getting Blood Bowl when that comes out (we need to make sure to all buy it for the same platform, since it doesn't support cross-platform games).

3. I need a new minis project now that my Saracens are nearly done. Either I'll fill out my Warmaster armies for HOTT, or buy some 15mm Romans for both DBA and Lost Battles.

I'll be in London May 23-31, so have fun with Memorial Day.

Chris, we totally need to play Unhappy King Charles. I have the rules down now, so it should be pretty easy for us.

Of course, all the other stuff you mention sounds good too.

So.... my Brute just lost three in a row... one of which was against Shadowtoggy who is two levels below me.

BTW, I hereby humbly transfer the SABG Official Compulsive Game Buyer Crown to Hornsfan, long may he reign.

No no no...I'm just refining my collection. Paring out the ones I don't play. You just asked the question at a remarkably coincidental time. ;)

Maybe I should have bought Hannibal. Probably. Maybe if there's not another math trade soon I may piggyback on someone else's order with Hannibal and the Arkham/Memoir expansions.

I had Flying Colors, but figured I'd never play it. The rules were vaguely unsatisfying, as well.

I haven't played either of my two Combat Commander expansions. I need to do that.

Stone age isn't compelling. I'm happy with Caylus (et al).

I'm hopefully in for Memorial Day.

My next game purchase? I'm tempted by Dominion: Intrigue. I like Dominion, but prefer it on BSW. But they probably won't do those cards, so I may get that set. I don't think there's anything else right now. I'd like to play many of the new Martin Wallace stuff, but I'm not desperate to buy them.

Yeah, if I recall correctly, Rob also compared Stone Age to Caylus. I don't need another Caylus. I'm happy enough with Caylus MC.

Memorial Day--guess we'll plan the Saturday and go from there. I'll put something up next week with the final plans.

No gaming for me on Saturday--I've got a friend's graduation to attend.

I forgot about Dominion Intrigue. Thanks for reminding me Brian.

Martin Wallace... I have After the Flood, and I'll pick up Waterloo.

I like Flying Colors, though being lucky enought to be taught the rules by the actual Game Developer probably improves my opinion. Apparently the new 1.5 rules clear up the fuzzy rule areas. Essentially, this is a faster, simpler Wooden Ship and Iron Men, for those of you from the old school.

C3i arrived today, jam packed with goodness. Lots to read here, which is good, since I read about games right now about 99 times more than I play them.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

I hope to get Powerboats soon, and I could be tempted by Snow Tails as well - the Asmodee US release of it is arrive late May. I plan on getting Blood Bowl - I'd recommend getting it for the 360, as it eliminates having to worry about hardware specs for the PC. There is the ability to create private leagues on the 360 version, 4 to 16 players I believe.
